U.S. Poll: Large Minority Fear, Mistrust Muslims
NewsMax ^ | 11 August 2006

Nearly four in 10 Americans admit having feelings of prejudice against Muslims living in the U.S. – and are in favor of having Muslims carry a special ID, a new Gallup poll reveals.

Also, 22 percent of those surveyed said they would not like to have a Muslim as a neighbor.

Among the findings of the late-July USA Today/Gallup poll:

31 percent of respondents said they would feel nervous if they noticed a Muslim man on their airplane flight, and 18 percent would feel nervous about a Muslim woman flying with them.

Less than half – 49 percent – feel that Muslims living in the U.S. are loyal to this country.

34 percent believe American Muslims are sympathetic to the al-Qaida terrorist organization.

40 percent of respondents said they believe Muslims in the U.S. are not respectful of other religions, and 44 percent said Muslims are too extreme in their religious beliefs.

A slight majority – 52 percent – believe Muslims are not respectful of women.

39 percent said the U.S. should require Muslims to carry a special ID, and 57 percent believe they should undergo more intensive security checks at airports.

39 percent said they "have at least some feelings of prejudice against Muslims,” 59 percent said they did not, and 2 percent had no opinion.

Opinions are different, however, among Americans who are personally acquainted with a Muslim, the poll disclosed.

For example, only 10 percent of those who know a Muslim said they would not want one as a neighbor, and 24 percent believe Muslims should carry a special ID – compared to 50 percent among those who don’t know a Muslim.

I was going to say the same thing, but you stated it much better. Don't they realize what a few (comparatively) are doing to them as a whole?

And instead they threaten!

US Muslims bristle at Bush term "Islamic fascists" [Council on American-Islamic Relations.......]

"We believe this is an ill-advised term and we believe that it is counter-productive to associate Islam or Muslims with fascism," said Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group.

"We ought to take advantage of these incidents to make sure that we do not start a religious war against Islam and Muslims," he told a news conference in Washington.

"We urge him (Bush) and we urge other public officials to restrain themselves."

If immigrants assimilate and join us thats one thing . But muslems don't do either . They don't join us in our fight on terror, to the contrary, most defend the terrorist .

They are infiltraitng our nation with camps .alot of independant investigative sources say these camps are military training compounds .They just opened another compound in Georgia .

Wheres our Homeland Security ?

Since we continue to appease them, make excuses for them and generally look the other way, we only embolden them to come up with horrific acts of violence, in the future. We will pay a bigger price down the road for our inability to come to grips with the threat.

I don't like the idea of indicting people wholesale or adopt tactics that reek of genocide and/or despotism. I'm one of the not so many Muslim defenders ("dhimmi") in this forum.

One of the biggest problem with many FReepers is that they couldn't think beyond their own current situation. If the DUnatics propose the same crap that is being said here and on other threads we'll scream. If we were Iraqis and the US adopted scorched earth and total warfare methods, we'd fight tooth and nail. If a superpower insulted our faith, persecuted our religious leaders just because they are Christian, and launched nuclear missiles at the Vatican and the Church of the Nativity, we'd show them hell.

Yet they expect Muslims to do a "Japan" and just roll over and have the Americans pat their tummies if we bomb indiscriminately, deploy missiles, or what have you. There is no way that we would end up with a more docile Arab/Islamic population but rather a more virulent and jihadist population. We would/should expect and do no less if we are treated the same way.

Of course, even if FReepers have no love lost for the Muslims (ha! an understatement) they would do well to remmeber that the DEMoncraps can do the same to us and we must never allow any one to be persecuted or harrassed based on their beliefs. Yet that is what many are advocating. So sad to see so many people willing to trade liberty for security.

Wheres this person when the terrorist strike ? I can tell you where 'I' think he is ,' in his American mosque celebrating '.

Wake up and speak up, while you still can . let the leaders know you insist on protection from radicals, not for radicals as it seems to be now .

We have the Nuke Mecca crowd here and the Mine the Mexican Border crowd here. They're not anywhere close to being the majority, although they're often the loudest and most visible.

I take great offense at any post attacking posters that is so broad that it might appear to smear all of us at FR. That's what I thought you were doing when you made your first post on this thread.

We might well be on the same side with this issue, but I still wouldn't have made your post. Being extremely wary of muslims in America right now is very understandable. We can't make muslims a persecuted minority here, but we also have to look at them as the most likely source of a major domestic incident.

We have immigrants from all over the world who aren't assimilating. Hell, Americans are barely assimilating themselves,at least not to the ideals and values of our Founders.

And there are those who are eagerly joining the WoT. The obvious places would be Iraq and Afghanistan. We even have them in our in our armed services. And no, not like that scumbag Akbar. We have Muslims who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the WoT.

Regarding the camps, there are many reasons why they are not yet shut down.

1. Intelligence may still be gathered by intelligence officers.

2. LEO is building a criminal case.

3. PC is in the way.

But I agree, if the camps are terror camps, they should be shut down. But we still have inncoent until proven guilty, although it seems highly unlikely that these camps are not for terrorism.

BTW, everyone, Muslims included (there have been immigrants from the ME since the 1930s), used to assimilate just fine. They learned the values, culture, patriotism, and freedom our nation is founded on.

Guess what happened?

‘Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Qur'an should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth’

CAIR is what the NAACP would be if it was an arm of the Black Panthers or MOVE.

They are strictly Wahhabi Jihadist and to be regarded as a terror org.

They speak for Muslims as much as the NAACP speak for blacks. I don't let the IRA or the KKK represent me.

Come to think of it, even Al Qaeda and HizBS doesn't rely on the CAIRorrists.

40% of Americans support a special ID for Muslims? I swear there's way too many idiots. It's usually hyperbole to compare someone to Nazis in an argument, but they're pretty much the same as the Germans making Jews wear the Yellow Stars.

My comment is based on the comment made by a CAIR rep today towards Bush for speaking out against 'islamic fasest ' . And the fact that we hear very little from the muslem Americans condemning terrorism .I have nothing against any group or race of people .

Also it use to be considered an act of war to fly a foreign flag in our nation while burning ours and threatening our people .

No other immigrants in our history ever committed such acts .

Can I ask you a couple questions:
1. What brand of Islam is in Saudi Arabia?
2. What country is supplying the majority of the Muslim clerics and funding the majority of Muslim education in the U.S.?
3. Given this, in what direction do you expect Islam to be moving in the U.S.?

Not all Muslims believe in killing all non believers either.

You may be correct in that statement or a muslim who says that may be lying, which is acceptable when speaking to an infidel. I don't know. But one is judged by the company they keep. Even those muslims who claim to shudder at the thought of personally killing anyone continue to condone and support terrorists by making financial donations to the various muslim causes, often presented as charities, funds which are then diverted to terrorists.

1. wahhabi
2. saudi a.
3. It would be tempting to say wahhabi, but accounting the various offshoots of Muslims that come here and the high percentage of refugees/immigrants from Somalia, Iraq (pre-WoT), IRan, Egypt, Sudan etc, there is no one dominant strain/direction in the US.

Most of the extremists comes from the younger ones brainwashed in jihadi institutions either at home or abroad. A significant portion of Muslims are blacks who practice Islam. Many of these black converts were part of the 60s-70s pseudo-Islamic movement such as the NOI and Black Panthers.
