President Bush said Thursday that a foiled plot to blow up multiple flights between Britain and the United States shows "this nation is at war with Islamic fascists."
"This country is safer than it was prior to 9-11," Bush said from the airport tarmac here where he was appearing at events focused on the economy. "We've taken a lot of measures to protect the American people but obviously we're not completely safe. ... It is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America."
The president laid the blame for the would-be attack squarely on al-Qaida-type terrorism.
"This nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation," he said, his remarks carried live on television.

"No, we are not. We are at war with evil people who use Islam as their excuse to do evil. If it wasn't Islam, it would be something else."
Islam doesn't have to be "used". Islam doesn't have to be "hijacked". Islam really IS a terrorist ideology and always has been. Think of them as the original Marxists.
The so called evils perpetrated by Christians is not denied but it took place at another time in a totally different culture then we live in today. The savages have brought a 13th century mentality to the 21st century.
Like the prez said. "Either your with us or against us". If they were with us they would be against them and would be helping us out. If they cannot manage that then they ought to be rounded up and sent packing, each and every one of them.
And there is no WAY you have any idea on what I have studied, or how in-depth those studies have been.
During the Spanish Inquisition, Christianity was a death cult.
Is Christianity a religion of peace? It wasn't then.
The bottom line is, you are wrapped around the wrong concept.
The evil isn't Islam, it's the evil done by those who use Islam as their rationale.
You can call it BS all you want. It doesn't make your comment any more true.
He used it in that speech. I am not interested in whether YOU think he should have used it more. That wasn't the point. That he DID use it was the point.
MY point is that he used quite a few phrases to describe them, and they were all correct.
Yes, he has.
All of the terms he has used are correct. Some are more descriptive than others.
Thanks for your opinion. Mine is that it's a religion that I don't have much truck with, but it is no more evil than my shoes.
If someone takes my shoes and beats people to death, my shoes aren't evil. They are just inanimate objects.
The fact that only a few extremists are committing evil acts indicates that the religion itself isn't evil. The people that commit evil acts sure are evil, and I think we are better off focusing on them, rather than wasting time fostering hate for a whole religion.
The time in which the evil was committed is irrelevant to my point.
People have committed, and still commit, sins in the name of Chritianity. Those evil acts do not make Christianity a religion of violence, or of hate.
Instead of making generalizations, you should focus on the actual perpetrators.
My brother was in Mogadishu, having a bad day. He killed a lot of muslims that day. He didn;t kill the muslims in the homes he busted into to find shelter. They were huddled on the floor, hoping the madness would go away. They do not deserve your hatred. Pity perhaps, but not hatred. Many like them are not strong enough to stand up to people who are willing to kill themselves to make a point, who would gladly slit their throats if they speak out, who would gladly kill their families.
Last I checked, Americans were supposed to be about helping them become free from such oppression. You know, that whole "De Oppresso Liber" thing?
Why do you insist on a simplistic thinking process? I have not indicated at all that I have a problem with hating evil. In my mind, people who will blindly, ignorantly, and stupidly lump people together in easy, little labeled groups are evil. Too much like the KKK, Aryan Brotherhood, Black Panthers, etc.
If you are looking for someone who will blindly kill all who look a certain way, look somewhere else. I am more selective, more smart, about my target acquisition.
If you think that makes me soft, then that's your bad.
Obvioulsy you are not qualified to know how deeply someone has studied something.
As for "how the Spanish Inquisition" came about, it was a response to the Albigensian heretics, a group of Cathars who practiced gnostic beliefs, in direct contravention of Church doctrine.
It occurred after the reconquest from the Moors, and as a result of the multi-religious nature of Spanish society after that reconquest. Those multiple religions included Catholicism, Judaism, and Islam.
Now that I've establishe I know what I'm talking about, how about YOU establish you know what you are talking about, and explain how this situation absolves Christianity of the actions during the Inquisition? Did those actions make Christianity a religion of hate, or were stupid people doing stupid things, and rationalizing it with Christianity?
"You remind me of Chamberline(sic) when he came off that airplane and declared "peace in our time"."
You remind me of a brain-dead muslim who can only spout what you believe, without thinking. Chamberlain didn't advocate war with anyone. I advocate war with terrorists, and not with people who are not involved. Shoves a spear right through that stupid analogy.
"Its time we start recognizing Islam as a cult and not a religion."
You have that right. I have the right to focus on the people who are actually attacking us, and to not practice bigotry.
You are the very embodiment of the saying "We have met the enemy and he is us"
I can just see the expression of dumb astonishment on your face as your beloved Muslim neighbor shows up one day at your door and proceeds to hack the heads of you and your family off. All in the name of their "peace loving" Allah, of course.
Those that refuse to speak out against evil are part of the problem. If these people are afraid to speak out now, then they will not take action when the ragheads begin blowing up our schools, hospitals and shopping centers. In fact their cowardice will lead them to support the savages just so their miserable lives will be spared.
"Thanks for your opinion. Mine is that it's a religion that I don't have much truck with, but it is no more evil than my shoes. "
You might want to read up on it, then, and the history of the prophet they consider the "perfect man for all time".
"You have that right. I have the right to focus on the people who are actually attacking us, and to not practice bigotry."
Ignoring the reason they are attacking us won't stop them.
If a muslim neighbor shows up on my doorstep to hack the heads off of me or my family, he would get the same hot lead treatment you would get if you tried it.
Your thinking is very simplistic if you think that because I will not hate all muslims, or join in your bigotry against Islam, that I love muslims, that I support terrorism of any kind, or that I am soft against those that attack us.
I eagerly await some sign that you are capable of more than simplistic thinking.
I have spoken out against evil. What I haven't spoken out against is the average muslim who hasn't done anything.
You can be bigotred all you want. If you are going to be upset that I will not engage in your bigotry, then I am happy with that.
And to be consistent, your bigotry is evil.
There. Now I've spoken out against that as well.
