Threat Level Change for the Aviation Sector
The U.S. threat level is raised to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights flying from the United Kingdom to the U.S.
The U.S. threat level is raised to High, or Orange for all commercial aviation operating in the U.S., including international flights. Flights from the U.S. to the U.K. are also Orange.
All travelers on commercial U.S. carriers and on all flights into the U.S., please be advised of the following changes to airport screening procedures:
NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY ON BAGGAGE. ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
Exception: Baby formula and medicines must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.
Beverages purchased in the boarding area (beyond the checkpoint) must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted on board the aircraft.
Passengers traveling from the U.K. to the U.S. will be subject to a more extensive screening process.
These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant.

Yes, I believe you're correct. A passenger would probably lose their Pepto Bismol, if they're unwilling or don't have the time to put it in their checked baggage, but the TSA won't take a legitimate prescription for say insulin away that a passenger might need in an 'in flight' emergency.

In my mind, taste it or pitch it. It isn't like she is not carrying two working breasts.
I'd taste my own snot if everyone else had to, in order to have my kids safe on a flight. And actually, I would hate it but I wouldn't whine to the press.

Banning all foreign muslims from all flights to the US would be an excellent start with flights for US non citizen muslims allowed only once --- out.
Even the cost of "tolerance" has a limit. Currently it must be billions$ yearly in time lost, inconvenience and frustrations. It's just a matter of time that things will change, specially when there is little or no evidence of the existence of the "good" muslim. Talk is cheap. Positive action non-existent.

The majority of Muslims are from Middle Eastern countries, and they are of Middle Eastern descent. Now try not to get too traumatized when I suggest that there may be a 'slight' difference in palor?

Better yet, tell us which one of these alternate terrorist groups are as big a threat as al Qaeda?
Sendero Luminoso, Black Panthers, FARC, Tamil Tigers, etc. The sad fact is that Sept 11th has made many of these groups jealous because they have been around a lot longer and have wanted to hit the US.
Now, many of these groups want to upstage Al Qaeda. The last thing we need is competition among terrorist groups!
But in your "wisdom" we would never screen caucasians or children or women or the elderly.....only young Muslim males.

There are a lot of folks that wish we could go back way things were before 9/11. Unfortunately, that won't ever happen.
There are just too many nut jobs out there with a crazy cause that they're willing to kill innocent people for.
Muslim jihadists may be at the top of that list, but there are many others and these days everybody with a lap top has most of the makings of an IED. All you need to add is the explosive charge.
That wouldn't be so bad, if laptops were the only device that could be used. Add cellphones, PSPs, PDAs, walkmen, mp3 players, portable DVD players, camcorders, cameras, GPS units and a ton of other electronic gadgets that EVERYBODY, including me, carries onto the plane with them.
I was in line behind a moron that tried to carry a couple dozen 12 gauge shotgun shells onto the plane with him, so I know first hand that TSA can catch that, but what if someone put a couple ounces of gunpowder into some other innocent looking container?
I don't like standing in line any more than the next guy, but I sure don't want to go crashing into a skyscraper, either.
I'm for cutting TSA a little slack. Let them use their fancy explosive detection machines all they want, if it will prevent terrorists from killing us on purpose or just the plain stupid from killing any of us by accident.

Let's cut to the chase here.
There ARE other terrorist groups out there, just like there are all sorts of venomous snakes throughout the world.
However: America is currently at war with one specific species of venomous snakes, the snakes that answer to the name 'al Qaeda'. And the adherents of that death cult are all believers and followers of the "religion of peace".
For that reason, we should be reserving our highest scrutiny for those who fit that profile, and that means Muslims. I will be the first to agree that not all Muslims are al Qaeda terrorists, but all al Qaeda terrorists have turned out to be Muslims, that is the ugly fact of life.
Sure there are other terrorist groups. But the one that is engaging in world wide jihad happens to be al Qaeda and their kin, like Hezbullocks, Hamas, etc., just to name a couple.
I never said that Grandma should get an automatic pass on to the plane without any screening. What I am saying is that it is statistically unlikely that a terrorist threat is going to be manifested that way, your concern about bombs and other tools of terrorists being smuggled into the purses and bags of unsuspecting passengers is admirable, however you are making an assumption that any terrorist is going to run the risk of losing control over the very weapons he intends to use in carrying out his mission.
That, I contend, is rather unlikely. Above all else, terrorists want to keep control over as many details (and weapons) as possible.
IOW, strip searching Granny is not going to do a damn thing to stop terrorism.
It might give some senior citizen TSA screener a large charge, but it won't enhance our security.
Everyone should be screened, period. But the highest level of scrutiny should be reserved for the most likely suspects.
FWIW, I heard this morning that the men weren't actually seated on the plane, but that seating was close, which would tell me that the attack was imminent.
Of course, there's no telling how correct early reports are.

At the very least a US passport database check, and the entry of all foreign passports and photos of foreign nationals flying in our airlines would be a good start.
I would scrutenize even US passport holders if they have the sandmaggot accent. There are US citizens, and fraudulent US citizens.
PC will be the death of us.
My guess is sooner than that, or we wouldn't have this massive disruption of airline traffic today. We know first reports are usually misleading, but I get the feeling, based on mention that the plot was known for awhile, that perhaps the Brits thought 9/11 was the target, but some development proved that a wrong assumption.
OTOH, if this was a lucky catch by British intel, it would explain pushing the panic button today, since the plan's details would be sketchy.
