A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
Define "we". If you infer an active US government sanctioned entity, that is correct. There are "factions" that abduct and interrogate foreign nationals. These are legal entities within the USA.
Top of the hour radio news (KFI) basically said that Scotland Yard thwarted a plot to explode a plane. A plane. They didn't say 20 and they didn't mention that the threat was ongoing, though she did say that the UK's terror alert level is raised.
Plus the people on the ground the plane parts would land on.....
Liquid explosives, were to be used.
He had no idea what he was talking about! He was bluffing like crazy too. Scary.
FOX news saying that of the 12 arrested so far all are from UK but of Pakistani descent..
I had thought sofalad was still over there too. You have to be concerned with 3 flights. Whew. If there is a silver lining, security will be tighter than usual.
Methodists?
According to Coast to Coast AM, not 5 minutes before this news broke, the guest said the next 24-48 hours were important. And then this broke. Talk about credibility. I'd get this guy his own show.
:-D
shades of Bojinka, multiple planes..
heck, shades of 9/11
Sky
News from UK on Fox,,
most arrested have been british born and have pakistani lineage
Just heard on FNC the explosives where liquid. No liquids are being allowed on planes. (I bet there are a lot of unhappy passengers right now!)
Definitely alot to be happening in one day.
The uncle was acting very surprised saying that his nephew came to visit him and apply at u. Minn. (what???) Didn't he apply for a class at a different school. The other two were found at Mia Sorella's restaurant in (I believe) Manville, NJ. They went to a friend's house in NJ after they became lost and broke in NY. It only appears to be about 30 minutes away. The restaurant owner convinced the two boys to turn themselves in.
