A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Two were found in New Jersey, according to two law enforcement officials, one of whom said they turned themselves in to authorities. No further information was available.
Eslam Ibrahim Mohamed El-Dessouki, 21, was arrested without incident about 11 a.m. (noon ET) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to a statement from FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko.
"El-Dessouki was taken into custody on an administrative immigration violation as an out-of-status student," Kolko said.
El-Dessouki "was located through source information," a federal law enforcement official said.
There was no indication what El-Dessouki was doing in Minnesota, but he was not visiting relatives, the official said."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A source with knowledge of the investigation said the men, who range in age from 17 to 22, may be staying in New York, visiting relatives and trying to find jobs."
I didn't like the sound of Scotland Yard calling up all major imams in Britain before the raids in order to notify them.

Things would definately be different under a Kerry administration. CIA would be gutted and filled with more leftist moles, DoD/Military funding would be slashed and burned, and DHS would be done away with, and Kerry would be fulfilling his 1960's fantasy by crossing the country back over the bridge to the 21st Century back into the 20th Century, and at the end of the day, Kerry would have his head rammed into some sandpile somewhere.

I just arrived last night back in the USA from a flight from the UK. No exterior sign of increased security at Heathrow.
Everyone had lots of carryon luggage too.
