Acclaimed actor-comedian Robin Williams has checked himself into rehab to battle alcoholism.
According to "Access Hollywood," Williams' publicist announced the actor's decision to seek treatment.
"After 20 years of sobriety, Robin Williams found himself drinking again and has decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family. He asks that you respect his and his family's privacy during this time. He looks forward to returning to work this fall to support his upcoming film releases."
No further details were made available.
Williams made his mark on the television sitcom "Mork and Mindy" before starring in a string of hit feature films, including "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Aladdin," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Dead Poets Society."
He won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for the drama "Good Will Hunting."
Williams' recent roles include the hit family comedies "Robots" and "RV." He also starred in the thriller "The Night Listener" over the weekend, but the film faired poorly at the box office, opening in 10th place.
What was the name of that movie where he was a creepy drugstore employee that worked in the photo area?
I agree: when he's clean, he's just hysterical.
He studied at Juilliard with John Houseman.
It must have been a riot.
Williams continued: "I mean, why do you need Viagra? It's a hard thing when he's a big prick already. (huge audience applause)"
Next, Williams moved on to more drug references: "Where was he staying in the Caribbean? Club Medicated?"
From there, the discussion moved into a homosexual theme after Leno mentioned that Rush was down there on an all boys vacation. Williams responded: "That's code. What do you need to take Viagra on an all boys vacation?"
Williams then suggested that Rush was in the Caribbean to go "fly-fishing" as he pretended to use his nether regions as a rod and reel...."

Yowr widen in my caw,
I tuwn on the wadio,
I forget the comedian's name, but that routine was ripped off from a guy who's biggest routine was cartoon characters doing pop songs. His Popeye and Olive Oil singing, Midnight at the Oasis is a stitch.
Outstanding comedic and dramatic actor. A person with a level of talent rarely achieved.
Only that he's not funny anymore and has resorted to playing the "harried, white-haired dad" in every single movie he's done in the last ten years.
(Sort of reminds me of Tom Cruise - "I like the one where he plays the cocky young guy.")
His one recent departure, attempting to reprise the magic of Peter Sellers in The Pink Panther was so pathetic I walked out.
One of the best movies I've seen this year is Shopgirl, with Steve Martin and Claire Danes. Martin wrote it. I really enjoyed it.
"I bet he regrets making those comments about Rush's oxy addiction now."
Especially since I think he coined the phrase "Cocaine is God's way of telling you that you have too much money."
...somehow fitting he used to be in Military Intelligence.
"But I believe his wife must be batty to live in the same home with him."
If I recall, his wife left him years back after finding him doing the nasty with the babysitter.
Check this link...a lot of surprises here. The guy's a freak.

I agree. His relationship with Amanda Plummer was pure magic. Great flick!
I'm pretty sure he married that babysitter and had a couple of kids with her.
Who said you should refrain from criticizing him? I certainly don't care who you criticize.
Robin Williams is a very talented actor, but he hasn't really tickled my funnybone in 20 years. There is no humor in hatred.
In the industry Robin Williams is a well known "thief" of others material, constantly using the best "bits" he has seen or heard other comics do and making them his own before millions of viewers while the originators of the material don't have the fame or opportunities that he has.
Also in the same ilk is Dennis Leary, who basically stole, word for word, body motion, voice inflection, etc. the act of the late comic Bill Hicks who died of lung cancer.
What's the link between these two? Williams and Leary were both professional actors who latched on to the comedy craze, stole others material and did it mostly better than the comics they stole from and parlayed others work into great fame.
Look it up.
He was. But when he became a parent he cleaned his act. 20 years is pretty good. Sorry to see him fall off the wagon -- but at least he has the honesty to see the slip and do something concrete about it.
