I thought everyone might like to see this picture which appears in this month's Car & Driver. Chrysler jumps on the anti-American bandwagon to sell cars abroad. This is an actual picture of a billboard displayed in South Africa...touting the absence of any American influence in its Smart cars.

Hmmm ~ screw the Germans and their Swiss running dogs.
Thanks...didn't know how to do that :-)
You write much better than Daimler does : )
Given the absolute crap that American car companies have tried to pawn off on Africa over the years, it's not surprising that American cars have a horrible name there. American cars had a nasty habit of dying out in the bush - which tends to be fatal for the passengers.
If I worked for DCX and wanted to try to sell cars there, I'd have to do the same thing.
Coming from a car manufacturer that has yet to install a decent transmission in their vehicles.

"German Engineering"
Does that mean the tailpipe leads into the vehicle?
Judging by the car, it must be "East" German engineering.
It appears European car design is gradually reverting back to the Isetta.
We wouldn't want to take any credit for that ugly thing.
Ouch!
DR. Z .. dumb dumb dumb
I had heard domestic unit sales for daimler chrysler has slipped since Dr Z went on the air as the spokescritter, I wonder why? Thanks for posting this.
Nice looking POS, if you're a goober.
Some of the PR moves that Diamler-Chrysler has made over the past few months have been downright stupid. First the Dr. Z advertisements on TV and now something like this? I guess nobody told the Germans that a bunch of American good old boys who are looking for alternatives to homosexuality-promoting Ford might be wandering around Dodge showrooms.
I laughed. Come on, that is a good one.
Hey, Dr. Z...is that a real mustache, er...billboard? Ifit is...then maybe American Sales should be exactly what you predict on the boillboard. NOTHING.
How about them apples Z? Actors, jeez!
They love the stuff ~ all the time trying to get permission to mail it too.
And those guys have MJ growing wild everywhere.
See my post 18.
