GM Camaro revival seen as early as 2008

General Motors Corp. plans to bring back the Chevrolet Camaro as a production vehicle, a published report says.

GM chairman and chief executive officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce the return of the muscle car in a speech Thursday at an automotive conference in Traverse City, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday.

It could be built as early as 2008, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans. GM spokesman Christopher Preuss said yesterday that he couldn't comment on the report.

GM had won praise for its Camaro concept, which was unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The 2002 model year was the last for an earlier incarnation of the Camaro, which began its run with the 1967 model.

Add the 300M to the list.

I get a "gansta" "superfly" impression from all.

It's not a car I would buy but I agree with you. I like the bold styling and I think it will sell.

Three comments: 1. GM is late as usual (retro comeback is year old now and 2008 is a long way off. 2. GM did a lousy "retro" job if that pic is what they are planning. 3. GM does not stand for Good Merchandise.

Gee, how's your Camry running?

I haven't seen sales numbers but I sure have noticed that there are quite a few CTS' and STS' on the road lately. I like the styling and am so glad that Cadillac decided to dump most of the chrome they used to plant all over those cars.

I really think Cadillac might be getting into Lexus' and Mercedes' shorts a little bit.

It is running just fine. Very roomy and 25 mpg on my daily highway drive.
