General Motors Corp. plans to bring back the Chevrolet Camaro as a production vehicle, a published report says.
GM chairman and chief executive officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce the return of the muscle car in a speech Thursday at an automotive conference in Traverse City, Mich., the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday.
It could be built as early as 2008, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans. GM spokesman Christopher Preuss said yesterday that he couldn't comment on the report.
GM had won praise for its Camaro concept, which was unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2002 model year was the last for an earlier incarnation of the Camaro, which began its run with the 1967 model.
looks like a cross between a mustang and a cadilac.
Don't these designers read any car magazines? (real ones not the fluff glorified dealer ad books)
from the pictures, GM is making the mustang (with BMW headlight accents)
They must have rehired the lady who killed oldsmobile.
On the surface it does, but in reality most of the latest models of Camaros, Firebirds and Mustangs sold were V6s. That's the volume seller..it's where the money is made.
If they're going to make a high volume car that's affordable to the average buyer, they must have an option for a smaller powerplant.
The Challenger is probably going to be $40k plus because it will be a low volume car produced (initally at least) in one variation. It will be like a new version of the Prowler, more or less...and I find that disappointing.
GM can design that because
a) common sense is not common
b) union rules do not allow common sense when accidentally found.
c) You still assume GM is a car company rather than a union benefit company.
oops should have said "can't design that because"
It looks too much like a cartoon car from the front!
At least it doesn't have the Fix Or Repair Daily or Found On Road Dead logo on it!
Owowow mymy eyeyes...
a lot of people are doing just that...
buying the original and updating the stereo, seats, suspension, brakes, rims and tires to 2006 standards.
Like having the best of both worlds; class of the past and the engineering of the present...sure as hell beats driving a "cookie cutter rice burner." LOL
The back seat of a Vette is the rear deck. Not great for lovemaking. However, those nicely curved and sloped front fenders is something else entirely...
You weren't one of the guys who stretched the Mustang from a small sports car to a monster-SUV-sized road hog were you?
I ditched that chevy heep and now drive a jeep.
That credit goes entirely to Iaccoca - too many female secys & teachers buying the 1st generation but that all changed in '74 w/ the Mustang II - not
Not practical on Alaskan roads and not in the winter. Even Subarus have problems with Alaska roads: it's a distinctive and familiar sound, the frame hitting the pavement as the front axle drops into the crevasse in what appears at first glance to be a paved road.
Lucky you, having one of those rare 4-seater Corvettes. Oh, wait. I get it now. CHEVette, right? A girlfrend of mine had a Kermit-green one of those horrid little beasts, but the backseat was rather, shall we say, limiting.
I can see the guys in Valley Stream and Franklin Square right now, with their red Z28s with Playboy dice hanging from the rearview mirror, an "I Love the 80s" moment indeed.
2. GM did a lousy "retro" job if that pic is what they are planning.
3. GM does not stand for Good Merchandise.
You are right, it does!
