I know this is a long read, but I recall hearing this nonsense in the NJ public school system during the 1970s to the 1980s. It was taught as fact, and was a definite slam against capitalism.
Well, the movement is growing and gaining a foothold into international government agencies, seeking to curtail light use after 11PM and changing residential, commercial, and government development rules.

I'm a packer, horses and mules. I spend a lot of time far from the end of the most remote dirt roads and away from the lights.
I have to agree that most of civilization is missing a huge show each and every night. At 9000' on a moonless night the stars look like someone turned them up many notches.
They are so bright you can almost read by them. At that altitude with a full moon, you can read in the night time natural ambient light. I guess what the city folks don't know they will never miss.

It was taught as fact, and was a definite slam against capitalism. What isn't taught in the NJ public school system as a slam against capitalism?
You people railing against this give conservatives a bad name. Not everything is a communist plot.
This organization is not socialist, the main thing they try and do is get people to put reflectors over streetlights to keep the light directed toward the ground rather than the sky.
The net results is to make the ground brighter and the sky dimmer.

Good afternoon.
As long as I get to keep carrying, I could live with it.
The DemocRATs are destroying business anyway, so we might as well get used to living in the dark. We could be just like North Korea.
Is a sarcasm tag needed?

Well, the movement is growing and gaining a foothold into international government agencies International? The American Planning Association is promoting this to local governments here in the US! In fact, in my area local governments have already passed lighting ordinances to reduce light pollution, and have the planning staff and the planning commission involved in all lighting decisions. They don't actually enforce most of the lighting ordinance except in new construction, unless there's a complaint. Flood lights in private residences have to be pointed straight down (defeating the purpose of flood lights), and they have restrictions on how many lumen's can leave your property (they measure with a light meter at the property edge).
