I'm a packer, horses and mules. I spend a lot of time far from the end of the most remote dirt roads and away from the lights.
I have to agree that most of civilization is missing a huge show each and every night. At 9000' on a moonless night the stars look like someone turned them up many notches.
They are so bright you can almost read by them. At that altitude with a full moon, you can read in the night time natural ambient light. I guess what the city folks don't know they will never miss.

I live in Oklahoma and see more of the sky than when I lived in NJ. I've been to remote parts of the desert and really have seen the deepness of the Milky Way. And I gotta tell you, it was breathtaking and very lonely...because I wasn't in civilization.

My father in law just sold his pack string. He used to pack dudes into the Bob. His name is Gary Abbey. He's a quiet sort; most of the real packers know who he is but he is the typical strong silent type. He has cancer, and I would appreciate a fellow packer's prayers for him.

10-4, and quit telling them or they will be out there in hordes.
