ACLU Applauds No Punishment For Pregnant Women Doing Drugs
Stop The ACLU ^ | 5-Aug-06 | Jay Stephenson

Via ACLU website:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland applauded today’s decision by the Maryland Court of Appeals unanimously ruling that the reckless endangerment statute does not apply to women who take drugs while pregnant.

“The ACLU of Maryland is heartened that the high court agrees that prosecuting drug-dependent pregnant women is not what the state of Maryland considers good policy,” said David Rocah, staff attorney for the ACLU of Maryland. “We believe that using criminal law to regulate a pregnant woman’s conduct on the theory that it might harm a fetus or her newborn child is counterproductive, illegal, and, ultimately bad for children and society.” (emphasis in bold is mine.)

What???? It is a theory that a pregnant woman doing drugs will harm a fetus? But it is common practice for the ACLU to ignore common sense and facts in order to paint an abuser into a victim. The way the word their press releases is quite interesting and revealing of how they think. They think that punishing a negligant mother who has subjected her child to hard drugs is bad for children and "illegal". The irresponsible and reckless acts of the mother are the things that are illegal and bad for children and society.

"theory that it might harm a fetus"

This is much like their theory that they are protecting the "Bill of Rights".

They are about producing more drug dependent children for our tax dollars to take care of. More dependents for socialist Gov. to hold as hostages.

I am disheartened that the MD ACLU thinks it's the proper function of courts to decide what is good policy.

So now women have a constitutional right to breed crack babies. And the right to kill them before they actually proceed down the birth canal. Of course, the welfare system pays a lot more for disabled babies than healthy ones, so we can all look forward to supporting children born with birth defects. After all, it is the duty of all of us rich bastages to pay for as many socially and physically damaged children that the "system" can produce.

But they fully support going after pregnant women who smoke cigarettes as child abusers.

Their reasoning, (And this is just a wild guess on my part) is that a fetus isn't a human being, so therefore there was no crime committed.

This is another atrocious example of the ACLU trying to advance their secualar humanist agenda. The ACLU is one of the most dangerous organizations in America.

By the way... You've seen the latests acrostic for ACLU? "Anti Christian Lawyers Union"

They are against Boy Scouts using public property because the Boy Scouts won't allow homosexual Scout Leaders (The ACLU does advocate for NAMBLA though...) The Court of San Diego was so intimidated by the ACLU that they not only banned the Boy Scouts from using a public park, BUT, they also awarded them nearly a million dollars in attorney's fees!!

It's time for America to get wise to the shenangins of the ACLU and put a stop to the outrageous misuse of the legal system by the ACLU...

A pregnant woman can dope up on meth and to the ACLU, that's "civil liberty." The unborn child is just an extraneous piece of protoplasm. Better get it aborted fast, sistuh.

Well, of course they are applauding. This will mean added income when they continue class action suits demanding more money to take care of more handicapped children--all on the taxpayers dime.

Apparently they thought, and the MD Court of Appeals agreed, that Maryland legislators didn't intend to prosecute these women.

Doesn't mean that the mother gets to keep the kid, tho - in Texas, and many other states, CPS will take the newborn child away as soon as the results of the drug screen is in. The family courts have very stringent guidelines to prevent returning the child until the mother has gone thu rehab & has demonstrated a period of clean time.
