In a full page ad in Thursday's Variety, an entertainment industry trade paper, the actor says, "I, Rob Schneider, a 1/2 Jew, pledge from this day forward to never work with Mel Gibson, actor-director-producer and anti-Semite."
Comedic actor Rob Schneider denounced fellow actor Mel Gibson in a letter, saying that he would never work with the Academy Award winner.
"I, Rob Schneider, a 1/2 Jew, pledge from this day forward to never work with Mel Gibson, actor-director-producer and anti-Semite," said the letter, which bore Schneider's signature.
The declaration was published as a full page ad in Thursday's Variety, an entertainment industry trade paper, E! Online reported Friday.
The untold joke of the letter is that Schneider and Gibson have never worked together before, with Schneider making comedies like 'Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo' and Gibson making epics like 'Braveheart,' and 'The Passion of the Christ.'
Still, Schneider stopped any chance of collaboration with Gibson who reputedly railed against Jews during a drunken driving arrest July 28 in California.
"I, Rob Schneider, along with Adam Sandler, Jeanine Garafalo, David Letterman, (etc, etc) declare I have NEVER been funny but I need the attention so this ad is a chance to get noticed..."
Why should anyone care what he thinks?
I guess that's "Bigalow." Shows I at least never saw the movie.
This was meant as a joke and publicity stunt, right?
The other half must be A$$-Clown.
As much as I don't like Mel's tirade (and I saw no anti-semitism in 'The Passion of Christ'), I just laughed when I saw Rob Schneider's denouncement of him.
He claims he is 'half Jewish'. How are you 'half Jewish'? You are either of the faith, or not of the faith. I don't see Jews as a race, but rather a religion. You can be black, oriental, Native American and be a Jew. If you don't practice the faith, you are not a Jew.
You cannot be 'half Catholic, half Christian, half Buddhist, or half Muslim. I don't care what your parents are, how do you practice half a religion?
...as funny as I think Rob is and as much as I have enjoyed his movies, this is just silliness. I'm sure Mel Gibson is just crushed knowing he will not have Rob Schneider to work with in his next project.
Maybe it is a joke I'm not getting?
is Schneider the guy that used to do that on SNL? I remember thinking, on seeing that for the first time, that SNL had sunken to a new, empty low. Even if the routine caught on for a while, it wasn't as funny as much as it was weird and totally emptyheaded and meaningless.
I think the whole thing is a gag, right? I mean it might almost be funny if he's really lampooning himself and the situation?...?
Every time since Bush became President. I wonder how James Brolin puts up with her? I have never heard him make ridiculous commments. Or it could be that I just don't pay attention.
No, he's Reconstructionist. He Reconstructs his Jewish identity whenever he needs to get publicity.
LOL! Whoop-tee-doo!
MG: ROB WHO?
....I'm sure Mel Gibson, is really "shakin' in his boots" over this denouncement. It highly unlikely Mel Would've asked him anyway...an unsuccessful / second third-rate actor.
bttt
Rob Schneider will be lucky if he can find work these days.
Of course I never worked with him in the past and doubt this is much of a threat since he never heard of me and isn't likely to seek me out for anything. I guess that puts me in roughly the same category as Rob Schneider.
If Gibson makes any more epic movies, though, I pledge to see them if I am able because his are among the best ever made.
Yes. Sort of.
The ad continues on that Schneider wouldn't work with Gibson regardless if he offered him the lead role in Passion of the Christ 2 or a "juicy voice-over role in his new flick Apocalypto and spoke ancient Mayan."
It sounds like his type of humor ...
It sounds like Schneider did this as a joke but who knows ...
In solidarity with Rob, I make the same pledge.
I think Schneider sees the humor in what he says and is making a joke and getting some publicity for it. I don't care for his humor myself, but he doesn't strike me as one who takes himself too seriously.
