Man to man: Diego Santiago, 5, talks with his father, Navy Chief Petty Officer Jesus Santiago, as he waits to be pinned as an honorary Navy chief at the USO. People in the audience are wearing surgical masks to prevent the spread of infection to the youth, who is suffering from lung cancer. His family mom, dad and sisters Brandi, Ali and Samara plus others have worked to make as many of Diegos wishes come true as they can. Becoming a chief petty officer was the ultimate.
Navy prayers ping.
Prayers for the family.
RIP "CPO" Diego Enrique Santiago
Sometimes there are just no words...I share your point of view. Sometimes I wish God would just wave His hand, wipe out this mess and maybe start all over. Sigh.
Prayers for little Diego, the Navy Hymn because he wanted to be a chief petty officer like his dad.
Verse 1: Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Verse 2: O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Verse 3: Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Verse 4: O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
Fair winds and a following sea, Chief Santiago.
Prayers for this little fella and his broken-hearted family.
From this Chief's family...........
Sleep well our little Chief, good job, well done
I was about to post the Navy Hymn, but I see that you beat me to it. It seems very aappropriate for this one.
Tears... There are no words for how sad and touching this is. I will be praying for the little guy and his family. May he rest happily in heaven and may his family have strength in this difficult time.
Prayers for his soul, and for the comfort and consolation of his friends and family.
Diego's story is both inspiring and heartbreaking. Bless his soul. And, God grant his family strength and comfort.
I'm always amazed that people can deal with the impending loss of a child, especially one this young, and not go completely insane.
I hope I'm never tested like that, because I'm not sure I would pass.
