FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Singer and actress Hilary Duff took the stage of Crown Coliseum here Tuesday night in a free concert for military families.
Duff, the multi-platinum recording artist and star of movies such as "A Cinderella Story," performed "Hilary Duff Rocks for the Troops" in Fayetteville, home of Fort Bragg.
Those in attendance were either in the military or have a military family member. Duff has previously made a block of tickets available for military families but decided this time to perform just for them.
"I think she understands, or at least wants to try to understand, the sacrifices soldiers and their families make," said Cynthia Ivins, who brought her two children, 13-year-old Morgan and 9-year-old Denise, to the concert.
Duff met with a select group of military families before the show, snapping pictures and shaking hands. More than 7,000 people attended the concert.
It seems odd but Duff who was one of the NICK staples is about the same age as many of our fighting men.
My 4 year old daughter likes her, and I hope I don't have to try and convince her other wise in the future.

Hilary is not Nickolodeon, but Disney. Most recognized as the character Lizzie McGuire.
It's great to see someone in the entertainment business doing something for our troops besides bashing them.
Rock on, Hilary.
She's quite the contrast to Lohan, isnt she?
Glad she's an H-town gal...
LOL!
No further comment needed!
I *think* I recall that the GOP tried recruiting her to recite the pledge at the 2004 convention.
I keep telling my son, 13, that any time he wants to bring Hillary Duff home to meet his mother is fine with me! I think she's a great icon/influence/role model.
She does seem to be a good role model, despite the unfortunate choice of a first name!
Wow. What an extensive expose' by the AP!! And would it have killed them (hmm, not a bad idea there) to have put "...for the military" in the title?
Imagine if this had been a Free Concert/War Protest how they'd have covered it?
God Bless her.
I think it was rather good. Nobody who hasn't been there can understand the sacrifices that military families make. Duff is doing well just trying to understand, and do some good.
My opinion of her just went through the roof, as it did for Lynard Skynard and Run DMC (I saw that one, they were good), who have done free concerts for the troops. I liked Jesse James of Monster Garage too, until I saw his Iraq episode (all done with his own money), now I have real respect for the man.
You're right. One might say that her given name has given her a hell of a mountain to climb.
She's probably wondering, "Will I ever rest?"
Well, that was nice of her. I thought she was cute in "Cheaper by the Dozen."
I thought she was cute in the Cody Banks flick.
BUMP
Having heard her sing, I think all her concerts should be free. :)
Now, now, now. Let's be nice! ;-)
