Overall Summary and Comments
This has not been a good day for Israel. Hezbollah has hit Kfar Giladi and Haifa hard, more than a dozen are dead. Olmert and the cabinet have hung the country out to dry. If ever we wanted to see the results of a democrat presidency and leadership of our country, just look at the lack of leadership by the Israeli government. It sickens me because the world gave Israel a blank check to deal with Hezbollah and they wasted theopportunity.
Ground Operations
My open sources for ground operations have not been on line this weekend. Olmert says that the IDF has finished setting up a buffer zone into Lebanon. If what I see developing on the map is true, theyve only pushed about 4 km, no where near far enough to stop the short range rocket attacks. Hopefully I can get the map updated early next week.
An incursion up to the Litani - some 30 km from Israel - would require, the insertion of an entire new division into Lebanon. The IDF already has eight brigades on the ground in Lebanon made up of 10,000 troops. A news source said that it would take several days to reach the Litani.
Another commando raid in Tyre had a degree of success in targeting a rocket launching group. They destroyed seven rocket launchers in villages adjacent to the city and killed three terrorists.
Air Operations
The IAF continues to pound targets in Lebanon
Rocket Attacks
Hezbollah continues to use the barrage method of fire, resulting in high casualites. Haifa and Kfar Giladi were expecially hit, substantial deaths and large numbers of wounded. 29 rockets were launched at Haifa over course of Sunday alone. The multiple barrages appear to have interfered with Israeli counter battery radar by overloading the system and not allowing it to quickly fix locations. However, as some media sources are showing, IAF is on station and can quickly respond to many of the attacks.

MS-13 graffiti destroys children's artwork in Boston
Snip: Punks from the MS-13 gang may have reached a new low: wrecking a mural created by local schoolchildren affiliated with the citys Zumix program. The kids artwork appears on the East Boston Greenway, which runs from South Bremen Street to the East Boston waterfront, and features colorful depictions of planes, trains, people and boats.
Vandals defaced the childrens hard work by tagging the mural with ugly gray MS-13 graffiti. The MS-13 gang is notorious for destroying property in East Boston.
Brazil man dies when pipe bomb explodes
Snip: A Brazil man who died after a pipe bomb exploded during a solo fishing expedition Friday had another of the homemade devices in with his fishing gear, authorities said. Paul Lynch, 31, of Brazil was killed instantly when one of the 6-inch-long pipe bombs exploded, sending a piece of shrapnel through his heart, according to Clay Count Coroner Rick Swearingen. Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton said bomb technicians from the Indiana State Police Bomb Squad defused the remaining pipe bomb, which was made from a steel pipe.
Analysts predict more "lone wolf" terror attacks
Snip: The most significant domestic terrorism threat over the next five years will be the lone actor, or "lone wolf" terrorist. They typically draw ideological inspiration from formal terrorist organizations, but operate on the fringes of those movements.
Despite their ad hoc nature and generally limited resources, they can mount high-profile, extremely destructive attacks, and their operational planning is often difficult to detect. An excellent example of this is the lone gunman -- a Muslim -- who entered a Jewish center in Seattle and killed one woman while wounding five others.
Snip: Most of the world ignored it, but Mexico and Israel recently had a diplomatic tiff. Their exchange raises some interesting questions about U.S.-Mexican diplomatic relations. It all began when a group of Mexican intellectuals and magnates published a statement in a newspaper, criticizing Israel for the conduct of its war against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israeli ambassador to Mexico David Donnan struck back, arguing that by placing all the blame on Israel, the document encouraged terrorism. This was too much for the SRE (the Mexican foreign ministry), which reprimanded the Israeli ambassador for overstepping his bounds as a diplomat....
Snippets: CIUDAD DEL ESTE, at the triple border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay - This is the way savage globalization ends - at least 20,000 shops, stalls, tin shacks and mini-malls crammed into 15 blocks selling everything under the (tropical) sun. There's Little Asia - thousands of Taiwanese, mainland Chinese and Koreans. But above all there are some 20,000 Arabs of Syrian and mostly Lebanese descent (another 12,000 live in the Brazilian resort of Foz do Iguacu, across the Friendship Bridge).
....And it gets worse: it's crammed with terrorists.
The head of the US Southcom (Southern Command), the vociferous General Brantz Craddock, is absolutely convinced the Triple Border is the abode of "the "transnational terrorist, the narco-terrorist, the Islamic radical fundraiser and recruiter, the illicit trafficker, the money launderer, the kidnapper and the gang member". The emphasis is on "terrorist" and "Islamic". Southcom - US$800 million annual budget, more than the State, Treasury, Commerce and Agriculture departments combined - is the eyes and ears of the Pentagon over Latin America.
In essence, this is how it works. Armchair gurus in Washington and New York theorize on the so-called five wars of globalization - terrorism, trafficking, money laundering, piracy and migration - and the Pentagon sends the Special Forces posing as cleaners to make it all proper for the "free" world. The underlying assumption is that Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaeda - "in sum, terror" - are profiting like mad from the so-called five wars.

"Illicit Diamond Trade Used by Hizballah and Others"
By Stephen Mbogo
CNSNews.com Correspondent
August 04, 2006
Nairobi, Kenya (CNSNews.com) -
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The international community should speed up efforts to prevent terrorist groups from using the proceeds from illicit diamond trade to finance their activities and launder their funds, campaigners say.
A Nairobi-based African affairs analyst, Adan Mohamed, said it was "very likely" that groups like Hizballah still use the trade to raise additional revenue.
"Nothing much has happened in putting mechanisms in place to prevent diamond trade from being used to clean dirty cash or finance conflicts," he said.
Investigations by researchers, human rights groups, the United Nations and media organizations have revealed how Hizballah exploited weakness in the international diamond trade monitoring systems to hide their assets and raise funds.
The illicit trade was mainly carried out in the West African nations of Sierra Leone, Liberia and the Ivory Coast, and further south in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "The small but influential Lebanese community in West Africa, comprising mostly Shiites, was also found to be instrumental in facilitating the transfer of illicit diamonds to Hizballah.
A 2004 report in the Middle East Intelligence Bulletin, a publication of the Middle East Forum and the U.S. Committee for a Free Lebanon, said that although the U.S. authorities had been able to reduce the flow of Hizballah financing from networks in the U.S., "it appears that one lucrative source of Hizballah financing is still growing: the diamond trade in West Africa."
Security information consultant group Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor) said last month that Hizballah could finance new attacks on Israeli targets abroad using funds from a profitable "blood diamond" network in West Africa.
Another group that has in the past documented how Hizballah and al-Qaeda have used diamonds from West Africa to finance their terrorist activities is the international NGO, Global Witness.
In a new report, the group says efforts to monitor the international movement of diamonds have not been successful and more needs to be done."

"Russian President Putin Slams United States"
August 05, 2006
Vox Populi, Jim Kouri
by Jim Kouri, CPP
The Russians have allegedly sold weapons to countries such as Iran, Syria, Venezuela, and other terrorist-supporting nations. After the US-led invasion of Iraq, Russian-made weapons were found.
As a result, the US government placed sanctions against American business dealings with two Russian companies selling arms and weapons systems to Iran. Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the United States on Friday for imposing such sanctions on two Russian corporations.
Putin called the sanctions an illegitimate attempt to make foreign companies work by internal American rules, after the US banned all American companies from dealing with two Russian firms that sold hardware to Iran.
One of the companies, Rosoboronexport, is headed by Sergei Chemezov, a former member of the KGB who worked with Putin in East Germany during the Cold War.
President Putin explains, These sanctions, which the US unilaterally imposes on other countries and their organizations, are an obvious political and legal anachronism.
The US Department of State says the companies were helping the Iranians to develop weapons of mass destruction, as well as cruise or ballistic missile systems to compliment its upcoming nuclear power."

Saudis Send Their Views to US President
Huda Al-Shayeb, Arab News
DAMMAM, 7 August 2006 Over 10,000 Saudi men and women from the Eastern Province have signed a heavily worded letter addressed to President George W. Bush condemning the United States for its unequivocal support of Israel in its attack on Lebanon.
Signatories of the letter include leading and influential academics, journalists, religious leaders and artists. The message, together with the signatures, was handed by a group of Saudis to the US Consul General in Dhahran, John Kincannon.
Describing the Israeli attack as barbaric and unjustified and highlighting Israels targeting of unarmed civilians, women, children and the infirm through a continuous, systemized and destructive campaign, the letter said the US support of Israel was shocking.
The letter further stated that the USs continuous justification of Israeli crimes was deplorable and held Washington guilty of providing military and political support to Israel.
Having referred to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rices rejection of a cease-fire in the Rome conference, the letter held the US responsible for the continuous destruction and killing in Lebanon and Palestine and ended with a call on the US to compensate Lebanon financially and to work hard for an immediate cease-fire.
Included in the group that handed the letter to the US consul were Saudi writers Zaki Ali Saleh and Ali Ahmed Al-Bahrani as well as Muklif Daham Al-Shimari, the president and founder of the Shimar Council.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
This information is current as of today, Mon Aug 07 2006 02:14:28 GMT-0700.
Worldwide Caution
June 06, 2006
This Public Announcement updates information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and interests overseas. This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated December 12, 2005 and expires on December 6, 2006.
The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. Americans are reminded that demonstrations and rioting can occur with little or no warning. The publication in the international press of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, for example, led to widespread demonstrations and riots in several countries.
The March 2006 bombing near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, illustrates the continuing desire of al-Qaida to strike official American targets. Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics to include assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings and bombings.
Extremists may elect to use conventional or non-conventional weapons, and target private interests or soft targets with a reduced security posture. Examples of such targets include high-profile sporting events, residential areas, business offices, clubs, restaurants, hotels, places of worship, schools, public areas and locales where Americans gather in large numbers, including during holidays. Financial or economic targets of value may also be considered as possible venues; the failed attack on the Abqaiq oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia in late February 2006 is one such example.
In the wake of the July 2005 London bombings and the March 2004 train attacks in Madrid, Americans are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems. In addition, extremists may also select aviation and maritime services as possible targets.
U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security. For additional information, please refer to A Safe Trip Abroad found at http://travel.state.gov.
U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its Consular Information Program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov. In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.
