Lebanese army and security officials said Tuesday night that a major IDF operation was underway against suspected Hizbullah positions near Baalbeek in eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, with one officer saying the IAF presence in the air above the ancient city was "unprecedented."
The operation began with at least five rapid air strikes.
"The extreme, unprecedented number of aircraft indicates the possibility that the Israelis are planning to land troops, but we cannot yet confirm that," said one security official.
Flares held aloft by parachutes lighted the night sky to a daytime brilliance, the official said.
Hizbullah's al-Manar television said IAF helicopters were taking heavy guerrilla fire but had not landed any commandos.
Israeli helicopters also attacked a target 15 kilometers west of Baalbek, starting a huge fire, witnesses said.
Earlier Tuesday, the IAF struck three Hizbullah bunkers in the western zone of southern Lebanon.
Warplanes also hit Hizbullah fighters battling with soldiers near the border as the guerrillas fired mortars into Israel.

The combatants hurt several terrorists and captured others," the IDF Spokesperson Unit said in a statement. Security officials in Lebanon said that at least three Hizbullah gunmen were apprehended in the operation: Hussein Nasrallah, Hussein al-Bourji, and Ahmed al-Gutah. According to the sources, none of the three is a senior organization member.

If you read the story...The Hiznuts wants us to believe the IDF travel 60km thru enemy territory putting many soldiers lives at risk spending thousands upon thousands of dollars in ammunition and fuel to kill 10 "civilians" 3 "terrorists and capture 3 low ranking bumpkins.
Does anyone even believe any statements coming from a Lebanon official or a Hiznut spokesman or news footage from fascist controlled southern Lebanon. Remember Baghdad Bob it seems all Arab spokesman are man of lies.

I read on yonitheblogger.com about a propsal to transfer the kidnapped soldier to Egypt. So..maybe they came up with another idea. They could have put him in the hospital which lets Israel get him back and Nazarallah saves face. Probably wishful thinking. I'm still waiting for Bin Laden to be dug out of Tora Bora ..

I will tell you a little known fact....In early 1986 I worked, as a contractor, for the IDF at Base 1 (I'll let you look it up)....If any serious ops...of any kind we're going on....we were locked out of the base.....period. Do any of these armchair warriors have the slightest IDEA......errrrr......no. Do you think CNN, Fox or any other station has a clue....? No. They know what they're told... and they "report" it with enthusiasm....

You are very correct. But that why Fox tagline "We report, You decide" I personally get my news from Stratfor.com

Wrong. See the Siege Of Khe Sanh, Vietnam; 21 Jan 1968 to 8 Apr 1968. The US had complete and total air superiority in the vicinity of Khe Sanh, yet thousands of US troops were surrounded on that hill and at times were cut off from supplies by the heavy AA fire of the NVA and irregulars.
Never, ever underestimate your enemy.

Yes, We have been watching this location for 24 hours a day for the last 5 years or so. We know where the weapon are since the fall of Baghdad. If Syrian troops try to move this stuff our forces will strike in a short notice. This is very serious time. Look for a large force of Troop coming up the right side of Lebanon. This will cut off Syrian and take way any resupply route to Syrian.

Yhe MSM will bury news about finding Saddam's WMD's in the Bekka Valley so deep you'd need a miner's lamp to find it.

I would like to think that Bush was in on this from the planning stages and that Condi's running around the Middle East for the past week was smoke and mirrors. (The angel is still in the whirlwind.)

I fully agree this is a very serious time. Note this comment from one of Iran's top killers.
"The London Arabic-language daily Al-Quds Al-'Arabi, relying on the Fars news agency, quoted Safavi as saying that "the Revolutionary Guards and the Basij... need to be ready to respond against Israel and the United States. The Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Khamenei] will tell you when the time for this has come."
That last line implicitly indicates orders shall be issued to activate Iran's terrorist sleeper cells worldwide.
Plus this quote recently issued by Syria's tyrant Bashar Al-Assad: "Now is a Time for Popular and National Resistance".
There is absolutely no doubt Iran and Syria have plans to go for broke, unless we can topple both dictatorships quickly while removing them attempt to make sure Iran in particular does not inflict acts of major sabotage against Iran's huge oil infrastructure, and or, attack other Gulf based oil exporters in a back-door method to quickly create market turmoil in the West, via a doubling or tripling of energy prices.
We must make this jihad Iran's and Syria's last!

The BV is the prized Hezbollah, Hams, Islamic Jihad hideout. That may, very well, have been the entire reason for Israel's invasion to begin with. The BV has been an Augean Stable of terrorists that has need mucking for decades.
Just speculation on my part, but this may be the whole enchilada. The stuff before was just diversion and prelude.
