The wife and father of kidnapped Israeli soldier Ehud Goldwasser, Karnit, holding a wedding photograph, and Shlomo Goldwasser arrive at Heathrow Airport in London, Monday July 31, 2006. Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering an Israeli offensive against Lebanon that has killed hundreds of people, mostly civilians.
"Apparently this date has Islamic importance."
Is there any date or time, or any place in the world that islam doesn't claim is "holy"?
Breaking on FOXNEWS:

(this has me wondering exactly how badly she screwed up her assignment in the ME to be sentenced to a BOR appearance...)

The U.S. intelligence community has not been surprised by Iran's refusal to respond to a Western incentive package to suspend its uranium enrichment. Intelligence sources said Iran, following North Korea's model, intends to delay any response or negotiations for as long as possible.
The European Union and the United States demanded that Iran reply to the Western incentive package of nuclear technology, fuel and aircraft by June 29. But Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Teheran would submit an answer by Aug. 22.
The U.S. intelligence community has been trying to figure out why Ahmadinejad chose that date. Sources said the community was stumped until some Islam experts translated the Gregorian date to that of the Muslim calendar.
Then came the surprise that has the intelligence community worried.
Aug. 22 corresponds to Rajab 27 on the Muslim calendar. The date is called Lailat Al Israa, when Mohammed ascended to heaven from the Al Aqsa mosque to receive the five daily prayers. Later, Al Aqsa came to represent Jerusalem.
The Muslim commemoration is meant to be a night of struggle, accompanied by thunder and lightening, resembling the story of Moses ascending Mount Sinai to receive the Old Testament.
Ahmadinejad could be hinting to the West that he is preparing a major attack on Israel. Or, the Iranian president could be warning that unless the West caves in, he would escalate tension in the region. The lightening in Mohammed's story could represent Iranian missiles.
What is clear is that Ahmadinejad does not see himself as an Iranian leader, but a Muslim prophet, using imagery to portray himself as a messiah for both Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims.

18:50 PM Olmert due to give speech at IDF base near Tel Aviv (Haaretz)
Vicious firefight on Lebanon border
The Israeli military was in a vicious firefight with Hezbollah forces in the town of Aita Al-Shaab in southern Lebanon. Israel was hitting the town with heavy shelling and 500-pound bombs, CNN's John Roberts reported from the area. The sound of gunfire exchange could be heard, he said.
I see Israelis are warning civilians to leave Leb Villages near the Litani River; I hope this time their PR people are ready to remind the world about this if/when civilians are killed.
One way around the media filter is to send out articles about how the jihadists Hezbollywoodize their civilian deaths.
No kidding! LOL Seems like every grain of sand to them has some significance. But with this particular nutcase and his endless claims of wanting to bring on the 12th Imman, some analysts have claimed this is why he chose that date. Here's a link for anyone who wants to read about this topic:

Tensions are high around here because that very thought is in the back of everyone's minds...
I'm scheduled to come home in early September, but keep wondering if I should move that date up...
Will that speech be televised?
I caught the end of Hemmer talking with a female on Hezb. in the U.S. and Canada. I was encouraged to hear her say that the FBI issued a directive last week to all police departments to keep an eye on all Hezb. sypathizers. Unfortunately, that would be half of the US population.
And all that effort expended to wipe out the Boy Scouts.
Actually, it's beginning to make sense now. The Boy Scouts had to be stopped so that these groups could send out their monsters to be effective....
BTW, I'm the mother of 2 Eagle Scouts.

I get a chuckle every time the hezbos DEMAND an UNCONDITIONAL cease-fire. It's like, You've blown us halfway to kingdom come, we DEMAND your surrender. Blow us the rest of the way there and we'll REALLY demand it.
bOOKMARK
We will now see how good Condi is at keeping a straight face.
Don't know but I'll monitor CNN pipeline and cspan.
LOL Looks like the White House is using US media more effectively. Go Tony!

wow, they broke that news at 838am also! More fake breaking news from the media!
That much I can buy.
But if so it has not gone as planned. Someone pointed out in a posting today that Iran has been calling for a ceasefire for 20 days in a row. I can't verify that but they certainly are calling for one right now and they seem very, very unhappy with the "do nothing" U.N.
