Frightening internal polling (House GOP to lose 30 seats?)
RedState ^ | Jul 30th, 2006 | HoosierTeacher

Posted on 07/30/2006 2:06:41 PM PDT by rface

Rush Limbaugh announced on his show that the GOP house internal polling shows a circa 30 seat loss for 2006.

It is hard for me to write much on this subject, as internal polling is secretive and not generaly available to public scrutiny. But there are some thoughts for discussion here.

One, is Rush correct? I don't think Rush makes it up as he goes along. He is human, and can make errors (as can anybody talking solo for 15 hours a week). But I haven't known him to lie outright on a political matter ever. I believe Rush has reported what he has gleaned from a GOP member of congress or a staffer.

Two, is the information correct? Is it a leak, or a misinformation campaign? I guess I don't see much value in leaking incorrect data to Rush exagerating a potential house loss. So I tend to believe the leaker was being accurate.

Three, should Rush have reported this (and should I write about it)? No to the first part. Internal polling is not meant to be leaked or reported. Once millions of Rush listeners have the info, it is already public and so I offer it here for your analysis.

Four, implications? Internal polling isn't the "for public" polling that you get from groups like Zogby, Gallup, Rasmussen, etc. Internal polling is the hard core, scientific, no spin accurate stuff that the candidates and the parties get and is held close to their vests. Only the best of the best work directly for the parties and candidates. My point is that if the information Rush reported is accurate, there are dark times ahead.

Implications go beyond this too. With the recent failure of the GOP by raising the minimum wage and cutting (but enshrining) a major tax, and with no movement on issues like arctic and offshore drilling, the slow pace of federal court appointments, and unreal spending, the GOP is losing the base. Despite our war on terror and a robust economy, Americans see casualty numbers and gas prices.

Having just adjourned for a recess, I see little the house can do other than campaign localy in the near term. If we blow this election we have no one to blame other than ourselves (a moderate to liberal GOP senate and a spend happy house).

"Where have you gone Ronald Reagan, a nation turns it's lonely eyes to you".

by real conservative do you mean pro-CFR, pro-no-child-left-behind, pro-senior drug plan, pro-amnesty, pro-huge spending deficits, pro-transportation bill, etc?

i think the major things conservatives have gained with a gop presidency are judicial appointments, foreign policy, tax cuts (with qualifier regarding spending increases), and an end to gun control legislation. I believe that this combo, overall, is not what anyone would have expected even at the end of 2001, from a gop government.

All that matters is the size of government.

ROTFLMAO!!! Yep, unless and until the GOP starts doing the right thing there. Then the only issue will be "X!!!" Or "Y!!!!" Whatever the GOP ain't doin' right, damnit!! :-D

I believe Iowa has a chance to pick up a Republican seat. I expect Lamberti to take out Boswell. Of course, Nussle's First District could be lost. Overall, I'm more optimistic than pessimistic.

I would like to remind everyone of 1998, when WE almost lost control of the House after the impeachment stuff.

Yep that was the year that that genius Gingrich predicted the GOP would pick up an addition 25 or so seats in the House

That would explain why the GOP wants to buy votes with an increase in the minimum wage.

Didn't buy my vote, I found it to be disgusting. IMO, illegal immigration is one of the maind disconnects between the GOP and the base. Also, not defending OUR agenda enough and giving in to RINOS & libs.

it really shows the power behind the party, that is the interests of business versus voters. folks who never would have believed our political system was so subverted by business interests had their eyes opened by that debate and some of the statistics that have come out on that topic, like number of INS workplace enforcement actions the last 8 years or so.

i think you are right, the immig. issue hurt the GOP more than anything else this year.

With President Bush abandoning Israel today, the supposed best firend the Jews have ever had.

Just when you think the hysterical posts can't get any more moronic. Sheesh!

Ya know, I don't begrudge your right to be woefully misinformed and emotionally unstable. It just bothers the heck out of me that your vote counts as much as mine.

It hits my funny bone that Tom Davis [I believe] claims we're going to lose the seats for being too conservative... and his remarks are interpreted on this thread that we're going to lose the seats because we're not conservative enough!

As you say, it's all local in House races (though generally the more conservative the candidate the better IMO.)

Their only hope is that their voters wouldn't vote for a Democrat on a bet, but they are not confident (rightfully so) that they will have voters showing up in large numbers....

One would have to be brain dead to vote for a Democrat. They have NO plans to deal with anything. Either the old saying that you can't beat someone with nothing is a lie or Republicans should be just fine. All RATS can do is yap.

When the Republicans hold both houses, the shock will be profound.

I respectfully disagree. I think the silence will be profound. If that does come about most of these "real conservatives" will not be posting on this forum... at least for a while. [grin]

Oh, you meant in hindsight. We moved quickly in Iraq to neutralize their biggest weapons of mass destruction: Saddam, Uday, and Qusay. We were concerned about sabotage of the oil fields, WMDs, Iraqi chem weapons suits and nerve agents stockpiled in and around weapons caches we found along the way, etc. We could hardly have committed more troops than we did in Iraq without leaving ourselves vulnerable to some other regional flair up. Remember, under Clinton our military abandoned the policy of maintaining the capacity to fight two major conflicts simultaneously. Moving slowly and heavily was not without its risks, though playing Monday morning quarterback seems to be.

:-D Well done!

Hey. it's exactly how Clinton got elected in '92

Clinton got elected in 92 by getting the hard core that always votes for the DEMS no matter what
His % was about 43 the same as Carter - Mondale - Dukacis got in their landslide DEFEATS

The swing voters went for PEROT
Public voted against Bush NOT for Clinton. Had two Nephews who hated Clinton vote for Perot

The place needs a good house cleaning. 30 seats won't accomplish much but it's a good start.

Paul, if you truly believe that the GOP losing 30 seats [chuckle] is a good thing, then you really should change your tagline.

the disconnect was always there, but the illegals issue really opened the eyes of some sheeple. support for agressive border control has been and remains HUGE and the government simply does not want to do it, and they drag their feet when it is mandated.

bridges to nowhere didn't help either.

The pollsters must have some secret methods because they are still able to predict quite closely the actual results of the various contests.

June 29, 2004 - Bush, Kerry Are In Dead Heat In Florida

August 12 2004 - Democratic challenger John Kerry leads President George W. Bush 47 - 41 in Florida

October 21, 2004 - Kerry Closes Gap To Make Florida Too Close To Call

Polls consistently showed Jeb Bush in a dead heat with his opponent Bill McBride in his last campaign. Bush won the election by 13 points, the largest margin of votes in Florida history.

There are plenty of facts on this thread. They seem to be invisible to many for some reason, however.

By "real conservative" I mean the incessant whiners that bitch constantly with exaggerated rhetoric, and claim they will be advancing conservatism by destroying conservatism.

You know, lazy hypocrites!
