U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, speaking after the Israeli bombing of the Lebanese village of Qana, said it was time for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas.
She said she was saddened by the bombing and confirmed that she had canceled a planned trip to Beirut, but would stay in Israel to try to work out a deal for ending the 19-day-old conflict.
Obfuscation, misdirection, and diplomatic filler. You don't discuss your war campaign strategy or those of your allies with reporters. just give them something to type up and get on the wire. Meanwhile, hezzi hideouts are being reduced to powdered concrete and twisted rebar.
I'm watching Fox now and they haven't mentioned this once. I'm sorry about the kids but civilian adults and children die in every war.
It's time to blast Syria to disrupt supply lines.
This is Rooters, folks. I'd consider the source.
Truer words were never spoken and one of the reasons there is no "peace" in the ME; like Styen said last week we're always sending in the "suits" to solve the problem of a group of people that want to see Israel destroyed, period.
It seems that after were WWII we forgot what winning a war entailed; keeping more of the other SOB's than he killed of you (with apologies to G. Patton) until they were so crushed or dead that it was over.
"The Israeli PM was sold on an air campaign by his Air Force and that doesn't defeat guerillas."
How 'bout if they use bunker busters?
Sheesh, that should be "killing more of the other SOB's" instead of "keeping".
I assume Condi is talking about Hezbellah. If not, she needs to stick a sock in it. Until Israel finishes the job, a stop in the action will embolden all Islamic terroist groups. For cripe sake, the conflict is only 19 days old.
FWIW, this is a Rooters piece with no verbatim quotes, so I wouldn't assume anything :)
"The more dead kids there are, the more islam love it because it makes the jews look bad. They planned it this way. "
Their planning is very effective. If the head Hezbollah hides in the Iranian Embassy, as is rumored, that invites (1) Safety for him or (2) risking an additional war, with Iran. Win-win for Hezbollah.
We need to upgrade our planning and intelligence. Israel and US need more and better PR (propaganda).
Good points -- these should be stated everytime the subject of destruction in Lebanon comes up!

But Hezbollah, with the discipline and ferocity of its fighters and ability to field advanced weaponry, has taken Israel by surprise. Now that surprise has rocketed back to Washington and across the American military. United States officials worry that theyre not prepared, either, for Hezbollahs style of warfare a kind that pits finders against hiders and favors the hiders. Certain that other terrorists are learning from Hezbollahs successes, the United States is studying the conflict closely for lessons to apply to its own... |
Right. Iran is arming Syria with tanks, jets; and this new Shihab-3 ground-to-ground missile in the near future.
The longer this goes, the better the chances that this could really escalate.

McCANTS Al Qaeda manual is a blueprint for hate that reveals a sinister plot to invade & conquer Most Americans know that Al Qaeda and its franchises are willing to sink to any depth to destroy the United States. But few people realize just how deep those depths are. The public's knowledge of the terror group's goals and motives is largely confined to the English translations of Osama Bin Laden's and Ayman al-Zawahiri's propaganda. Consequently, Al Qaeda and like-minded groups, or "jihadis," are viewed either as unthinking zealots or misguided freedom fighters. "The Management of Savagery" - a book written in... |
I think it's a PC thing or maybe a ratings thing that if they don't appear to be concerned about the children it'll turn their viewers off or they won't appear "sensitive". As someone else pointed out if they want to be concerned they should talk about the children and civilians killed by homicide bombers.
An example of this that stands out in my mind is the press conference a few years back when the Army (Air Force?) was talking about the Daisy Cutter. A reporter asked about the purpose and the speaker (I think he was a general) said "to kill people". You could have heard a pin drop. The reporters all looked like they'd just swallowed a 10 pound spit ball.
If we'd be concerned about the civilians in Dresden or Hiroshima we'd probably still be fighting (well, that's a stretch, but you see what I mean).
War is hell. Lots of innocents get dead, especially when the enemy is so chicken-spit to not even wear an identifiable uniform. It's a fact, the media should have studied a bit more history and get a clue but they're so lame I don't see that happening, Fox included (well, except for Brit).
Or, couldn't
