As the bloodbath in Lebanon spilled past its second week with at least 400 Lebanese dead and many more presumed buried in rubble; some 800,000 refugees, nearly a quarter of the population, on the run; and the fragile nations infrastructure shattered there was no easy way out for either Israel or Hezbollah, the combatants locked in what each saw as a deadly existential struggle.

Israel is close to invincible when fighting the region's traditional armed forces, but when the opponents are terrorist organizations hiding behind civilians the rules are completely different. ....as we know all too well from our experiences in Iraq.

This is like the 21004 election where all the leftists in the media had Kerry winning. They are hoping for the same thing with the Hezzies but are forgetting something.
This is war and they have no clue what is going on outside their little area. They are not seeing strategy, only the result of a raid or a bombing.
The Hezzies are holing up in bunkers. Israel requested bunker busters. As long as there is an air campaign, the hezzies pop up, shoot a rocket or 300 and go back and hide. Meanwhile Israel paints where it is coming from and fires off a barrage.
Once the bunker busters are in place, after dropping 20 or 30 of them, the hezzies are going to run for the hills, well at least whatever is left of them.
The goal here of the left and Iran/Syria is to get a cease fire before the bombs arrive in the Israeli arsenal. because one the bombs are dropped, this will be over in 24-48 hours.

Hezbollah, Sheik Nasrallah has said, needs only to survive to win. That seemed increasingly likely by weeks end. Deeply entwined among the Shiite community that makes up perhaps 40 percent of Lebanons population, it would be impossible to eliminate
There is going to come a time, when the concept of genocide and total war are going to have to be rethought.

As Rush has said, the liberal media reports not what happened, but what they wish had happened.

If they use the same tactics we do, they will have the same problems. Israel should pull back and level every village within 20 miles of the border.

The problem with the war on terror are the current rules of engagement. The most powerful weapon for terrorists is hiding behind non armed people because they know that they can be well protected since our rules of engagement (also that of Israel) are meant to reduce the number of non armed people killed to an absolute minimum and hence this restrain them from using overwhelming force that can annihilate the terrorists. Unless a new rule of engagement are set up, i.e less consideration from non armed people killed, then this war on terror will take much longer time.

Real infuriating how the Left has so corrupted the language. 3000 dead Americans and all we hear is "the Tragedy of 9-11". It wasn't a tragedy, it was an atrocity. Then we have 400 dead. mostly terrorists or their supporters, in two weeks of combat and it is called a "Bloodbath". Get a bleedin' grip NY Drama Queens!

Hate to say it but predictably Israel will cease to exist in 25 or 30 years. Right now if not for Bush and Blair Israel would be overrun. Eventually we'll get a leader who will throw Israel to the wolves. The population of Israel is about 5M, while surrounded by enemies and few allies the odds against them are overwhelming. Check out American DemocRAT Jewish politicians who only give lukewarm support to the State of Israel.
To: MNJohnnie
How about accusing our soldiers of "atrocities", then claiming when terrorists blow up civilians, that they are "winning".
Pure propaganda.
To: Mr.Smorch
Talking heads, regardless of what dino media. Israel is the strongest power in the mideast, and if they choose yet once again to come to some 'agreement' they will cease to exist. 50 years past due, they should have obliterated their enemy. Same goes for the U.S. action in Iraq. Peace is obtained thru superior firepower-and using it.

Israel should pull back and level every village within 20 miles of the border. Now THAT is the
message Secretary Rice should deliver to all the parties in the ME.
