Haifa, Israel (CNSNews.com) - The four United Nations peacekeepers killed in an Israeli attack on their outpost were required to stay at that post "until they were ordered by the [U.N.] secretary general to withdraw," said a member of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization on Wednesday.
But the peacekeepers apparently never received such an order, despite the fierce cross-border fighting that erupted in southern Lebanon two weeks ago.
The four peacekeepers -- from China, Austria, Canada and Finland -- had taken security precautions and were in a shelter under their bunker when they were killed, said Wicki Dieter, the chief plans officer for the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).

It is my understanding that two are killed and two are unaccounted for.

To call them peace keepers, first there has to be a peace to keep!

I think this just underscores how incompetant this dolt kofi really is. Many of us knew he was stupid, but wow, his inability to get his "troops" out of a war zone in the middle of raging hostilities, is just the epitome of idiocy.

The article implies that the UN chief is a CINC of sorts. That is as laughable as it is scary.

Exactly what are these people doing there anyways?
They sure are not keeping any peace, and they are costing American taxpayers a lot of money.
Why are we even paying for these people?
Time to send them home.

He probably left them there on purpose to die so he could then blame Israel.

...do you have proof of that?....I seriously doubt a Canadian Major, one of the casualties would be doing so.. if anything, Hezzies impersonate U.N. personnel and I mourn the deaths of the observers since they were just following idiotic orders....but Kofi does not get the fact that terrorists are.......well, terrorists.....
To: TomGuy
That is the rub....they weren't peacekeepers, just observers with no weapons or authority....they have NO mandate to stop any action and the poor guys were sent there by U.N. mandate....one which the U.S. voted for also....they should have been gotten the hell out of there though....Kofi thinks that the U.N. flag must be some shield against bad things.....sorry Kofi, the deaths are on YOUR hands

"The U.N. force commander in Rwanda, Canadian Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire, remains haunted by the refusal of U.N. bureaucrats to let him intervene to prevent the 1994 genocide by seizing the arms that Hutu killers were stockpiling. Gen. Dallaires boss in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the time was one Kofi A. Annan of Ghana, who argued that any such action would exceed the peacekeepers mandate"
Bingo!
Kofi Annan, has a very long history of kow-towing to terrorists and killers.
Once a weasel, always a weasel.
The sooner this corrupt POS is sent away the better for mankind.

HOW POLITICALLY BIASED! Everything the UN, Kofi, Hizbollah, Hamas does is correct as is the UNs criticism of Israel. We know the UN is absolutely correct! Our tax dollars are always spent in the best interest of the US, our allies and Politically Correct activities whatever they may be or may be changed to! </sarc
