It's Disproportionate. . .
By Eugene Robinson
[SNIP]
But even if you set aside the president's embarrassing open-mike performance at the Group of Eight summit, which is hard to do, events of the past week show that this administration actually thinks it knows what it's doing. Bush and his folks haven't just blundered around and created this dangerous mess, they've done it on purpose. And they intend to make it worse.

Bush's endorsement of the violence that Israel is inflicting on Lebanon -- a sustained bombing campaign that has killed hundreds of civilians and can only be seen as collective punishment -- is truly astonishing. Of course Israel has the right to defend itself against Hezbollah's rocket attacks. But how can this utterly disproportionate, seemingly indiscriminate carnage be anything but counterproductive?
Destroying the Beirut airport, blasting communications towers into oblivion and cleansing southern Lebanon of its civilian population are not measures the world will see as an attack on Hezbollah terrorists. The Israeli campaign is so intense and widespread that it is creating more terrorists than it kills. Proportionate military action might have enhanced Israel's security, but video footage of grandmothers weeping amid the rubble of their homes and bloodied children lying in hospital beds won't make Israel more secure. Hezbollah's stature in the Arab world is growing, and its patrons in Damascus and Tehran must be smugly satisfied.
The role of any American president and secretary of state should have been to move quickly to bring hostilities to an end. Instead, Bush all but egged the Israelis on, and Condoleezza Rice went so far as to reject the idea of a cease-fire. Belatedly, she has flown to the region with no real credibility as an honest broker.

"It's Disproportionate. . ."
means...
"we don't want you to win."
Only to liberals who deliberately cloud their view of the facts. Hiz started this. Hiz is hiding among civilians. Even then, Israel is mimimizing damage to non-combatants - many of those this pinhead refers to as civilians are actually terrorists in civilian garb.
Who is this hateful piece of filth?

When you are invited to a war it's best that you be determined to win.
How can Hezbollah's stature in the Arab world grow if there is no more Hezbollah left?
I just hope that someone uses this war as an excuse to bomb the crap out of the Iran nuclear facilities and get the whole area under control and settled down.
Disproportionate is the sly way of saying it's excessive.
When a nation implements military force, it exherts enough force to get the enemy to capitulate and or comply with it's wishes. The enemies of Israel have not capitulated or complied with it's demands. Therefore Israel has not used excessive force. It has used a level of force that has not achieved Israel's goals. If anything, it has used too little force.
Disproportionate? Excessive? Bull s--t!
The liberal idiots don't understand that waging war has only one objective: to win. You do whatever you have to in order to prevail over your enemy and then you stop. You don't "play fair" and you try to use the most overwhelming combat power available. Not surprising that the left camp doesn't get it.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention and/or have read the wrong history books.
But could anyone point me to any previous incident in history when a Nation attacked has been decried for using "disproportionate force" or "collective punishment" on the attackers?
Yep --
Once again (and all together now...)

Liberals are conditioned to expect everything to be 'equal' and 'fair' so the concept of a winner and a loser have been removed from their lexicon and fantasy world.
Sorry Leftards, real life doesn't function the same as your communist theology.
Uhm. I didn't feel particularly embarrassed by his remarks. I found them refreshing. It displayed a thinking that is disturbingly lacking in the rest of the "civilized" world.
Good post. Seems like the left has few who have ever actually been in command of real combat OPS from platoon on up. My experience was that there is no such thing as equal firepower, equal causualties, nor was anything equal. I suggest the left learn both the principles of offense and defense.
Think Hiroshima...
Hezbollah are considered "civilians" by the MSM. .....although they'll go way out of their way not to mention this fact.
Let's let little Eugene prattle on.
He inflicts more damage on his cause with his ill-chosen words of choice.
The very deprecatory comments he is using reveal the snotty, air-headed, leftist Liberal idiocy of our "Enemies Within".
And it is a stark reminder of the treason that runs deep at the infamous old "WAPO". They should be shut down as agents of our enemy in time of war.
Look forward to the day when the "blowback" will come in all its righteous fury.
As my Drill Sergeant said, "If you find yourself in a fair fight, you did something wrong."
Go Israel!!!
