Pres. Bush: I have assured the PM that the US will not abandon the Iraqi people. I am impressed by the courage of the Iraqi citizens.

Is anyone but me heartily sick of even some conservative radio personalities saying that the Israelies got more than they bargained for? Grandy and Andy on WMAL in D.C. come to mind. ARGH! It's been less than two weeks. My LORD have we become a movie-oriented society! If it's not over in sixty minutes, we think it can't be won. The McDonald's mentality. Get it in seconds, not minutes. Makes me so angry!

Maliki very clear that he doesn't want American troops to leave until they can secure their country.

We won't. Call it the Iran Preposition Plan.

Earlier, IAF aircraft destroyed the Hizbullah Katyusha launcher that fired 16 rockets at Haifa less than an hour before

Nice work.

Pres. Bush: The PM and I spent time talking about Lebanon. I listened closely to the PM and I value his perspective. I heard him on the need for aid to lebanon. American is concerned about the loss of innocent life. Condi is working hard to establish aid corridors. I support a sustainable ceasefire and supporting the Lebanese govt. and people.

18:14 Greek trade unions to march against attacks in Lebanon (AP)

One would think the Greeks would remember their history with the Turks better. But there is a lot of ugly socialism/communism in Greece.

Some potentially bad news:

Jul. 25, 2006 14:14 | Updated Jul. 25, 2006 17:37
Troops hurt in Maroun al-Ras clashes
By YAAKOV KATZ

Several IDF soldiers from a tank unit were wounded on Tuesday afternoon when troops encountered resistance in Maroun al-Ras, a Hizbullah stronghold the IDF believed it had under its control.

Troops were attempting to evacuate the wounded under fire. The number of casualties was unclear.

Not 25 and not killed, but there may have been losses. As I wrote in one of my posts late yesterday (my time) although the IDF is winning and is winning big, the terrorists may get lucky now and then, just as they were in Jenin.

Hope this is not as bad as it sounds.

Pres Bush: In light of the violence in the middle east, many are questioning whether democracy can take hold. Iraq is an example that it can.

PM Maliki: I thank you for your invitation to visit the US...and I and my delegation received a warm welcome here. I appreciate the responsible spirit that has dominated our discussions today. We have agreed that building the security and military institutions in Iraq represents the fundamental base to stabilize the country. I confirmed the the Pres. that Iraq needs the international community and the US.

Hi, Allegra -- must be evening downtime over there already.

You should have seen ABC's evening news yesterday -- made me want to puke. They ran interviews in a parking garage in Beirut, brand-new with epoxied floors, spotless, never had cars in it even. Just "happened" to be available as a bomb shelter for the g-pop, courtesy of Hizbollah. All set up with snacks, crashpads, drinks, and a big-screen TV turned 24/7 to the Hizbollah propaganda channel. Did you see the piece? ABC even gave us a screenshot of these impostors on the air, pretending to be CNN or ITV, and didn't even comment. I think the deal is, if you're interviewing people in Beirut and don't want to get shot with an RPG, you suck up to Hizbollah -- Rule One.

Did you see Syriana six months ago? Same deal. Director/producer Steve Gaghan sucked up to Hizbollah big time -- just huge suckup factor. You could hear the camera laboring on vacuum. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the actor playing the Hizbollah big shot was a Hizbollah PR big shot, doing a cameo. Then the movie asserts that the CIA would turn loose an IR-guided bomb on an Arab sheikh and George Clooney. Yeah, right. Gaghan told Charlie Rose in an interview that some "right-wing" think-tank hands got up and walked out of a special screening that Gaghan arranged, some days before the premiere, for a roomful of policy people in D.C. His contemptuous comment that some people just can't deal with the subject except through their own filters was classic projection. He didn't grep or grok the conservative outrage at all -- and he didn't care. He had George Clooney and Christopher Plummer and Matt Damon and Amanda Peet up on the screen -- what did he care about the reality fit? Or rather, maybe he actually thought that this dog's breakfast of sucking-up to the jihadis was somehow a reality fit.

So that's where Hizbollah gets the idea that they can play at ITV wannabe's, and ABC will string along. Guess they go back to the 40's for their inspiration and that original champion of Arab causes, Josef Goebbels.

Oh, and ABC re-ran the feature on Nightline, just to make sure we didn't miss it.

Maliki's translator is good. He keeps it flowing. However, I did note that he translated "Allah" into "God."
