You should have seen ABC's evening news yesterday -- made me want to puke. They ran interviews in a parking garage in Beirut, brand-new with epoxied floors, spotless, never had cars in it even. Just "happened" to be available as a bomb shelter for the g-pop, courtesy of Hizbollah. All set up with snacks, crashpads, drinks, and a big-screen TV turned 24/7 to the Hizbollah propaganda channel. Did you see the piece? ABC even gave us a screenshot of these impostors on the air, pretending to be CNN or ITV, and didn't even comment. I think the deal is, if you're interviewing people in Beirut and don't want to get shot with an RPG, you suck up to Hizbollah -- Rule One.
Did you see Syriana six months ago? Same deal. Director/producer Steve Gaghan sucked up to Hizbollah big time -- just huge suckup factor. You could hear the camera laboring on vacuum. I wouldn't be surprised to find out the actor playing the Hizbollah big shot was a Hizbollah PR big shot, doing a cameo. Then the movie asserts that the CIA would turn loose an IR-guided bomb on an Arab sheikh and George Clooney. Yeah, right. Gaghan told Charlie Rose in an interview that some "right-wing" think-tank hands got up and walked out of a special screening that Gaghan arranged, some days before the premiere, for a roomful of policy people in D.C. His contemptuous comment that some people just can't deal with the subject except through their own filters was classic projection. He didn't grep or grok the conservative outrage at all -- and he didn't care. He had George Clooney and Christopher Plummer and Matt Damon and Amanda Peet up on the screen -- what did he care about the reality fit? Or rather, maybe he actually thought that this dog's breakfast of sucking-up to the jihadis was somehow a reality fit.
So that's where Hizbollah gets the idea that they can play at ITV wannabe's, and ABC will string along. Guess they go back to the 40's for their inspiration and that original champion of Arab causes, Josef Goebbels.
Oh, and ABC re-ran the feature on Nightline, just to make sure we didn't miss it.
The segment where Clooney was being tortured ( fingernails pulled off) and saved just prior to having his head SAWED (not sliced) off by the religious leader was frightening.
I didn't see it. We can get ABC, but things are on at odd hours and ever since I got Fox News on the TV in my living quarters, that's the only news channel I'll watch (even though Shep Smith can be a tad irritating.) I'm GLAD I didn't see it. I've gotten apoplectic too many times watching the CNN lies about Iraq (back when Iraq was in the news...LOL)
I haven't seen Syriana either, but the bootleg DVD is readily available here. Should I see it? I've been wondering. Will it make my blood boil?
My,....how thoughtful of them...I still missed it and I already watch ESPN...they own it and that is all I will watch from their presentations.
