INDIANAPOLIS -- A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when a floor-mounted mirror fell on him at an Indianapolis Wal-Mart.

Police said Christopher Antonio was apparently playing near the 5-foot-tall mirror in the children's section of the store Saturday evening when it fell at the store in the 3200 block of 86th Street.

The boy was with his 5-year-old sister and his mother. The mother told police she was about 5 feet away from her son when she heard a loud crash.

Police said it took two people to pull the mirror off the boy.

We have been systematically removing discipline from child rearing since a guy named Spock wrote a book.

Yeah. And didn't he help.

said installation would have been done to the highest level of perfection as possible.

At home. I wouldn't trust a store. And didn't.

Growing up, my parents always made us hang to the cart...we weren't allowed to wander.

I'm liking you more with every post. Thanks.

When you are talking about what the kids do once they become adults, W_P is right, but getting them to adulthood is your responsibility as a parent and obedience and manners are not optional. Without them, if they do reach adulthood, they won't go far or last long.

And there by the grace of God this did not happen to you! YOu may want to claim you never once took your eyes off of a kid in your charge but first Ill believe the sun will rise in the West tomorrow..

My last post to you.

From 73: I'm assuming that most parents are smart enough to control their kids. When mine got too big for the carts, they were either in the basket or holding the pocket of my jeans. The MINUTE they let go I knew it and they were back by my side where they belonged. As they got older, when Hubby was along, he'd say, "where do your hands belong?". My boys put their hands in their pockets and stayed beside us.

Shopping was NOT more important than knowing where my kids were and EXACTLY what they were doing. Why wasn't the kid in a cart.

The point is the number of heartless arrogant people on this site is enough to sicken me some days...

Lets assume the mother made a mistake, I want you to find me a parent who has not had a moment when something could have happened to their kid(s). Yet the first reaction of many on this thread were.

Its a shame that this kid had a terrible mother and I hope walmart does not get sued..

when the should have been

Its a shame that this family will have to suffer the loss of their young boy, and I hope the find God in this..

I can definitely tell you I never got away with anything, my mom always knew. If my hand let go of her pants, it ended up in her hand before I knew it. If I wasn't walking beside her, I was in the cart. As I got older, I would help push the cart. In all cases I was within sight & even within arms reach.

Hey I'm talking to a guy who's mother left the room so she could try on cloths, talk about how important shopping is! When my wife goes shopping for cloths she has the good sense not to take the kids with her!

Has anybody noticed how similar this thread is to rebel_yell's "I'm stuck in Lebanon" thread? It's was filled with rude, callous posts about how his situation was his own darn fault.

I always hated the term "compassionate conservatatism" because the premise of the phrase is that conservatism isn't compassionate per se. Now, i'm not so sure. Maybe Bush was on to something.

ou wouldn't go to a friend's teenage son's funeral and say, "Too bad he wasn't wearing a sealtbelt. I always made my kids wear seatbelts", would you?

I'm not at a funeral. I'm on a discussion forum DISCUSSING news.

The truthfulness of what you say is irrelevant - it just seems untoward. You aren't from the South, are you? There's just some things you don't say.

Then why was the thread posted if not to discuss it?

You weren't on that thread about the TV killing a 3 yr old, were you.

Not quite why are you trying to get off the issue at hand and apply every single emotional hot button issue to this discussion..

Because sometimes an analogy is needed, and that's the first one that comes to mind.

Lets go the full gambit and bring the Nazi's into it..

No, you. Whoever invokes the Nazis automatically loses. (Does mentioning count as invoking?)

But for the sake of argument: would be safe to say that because you have never had a Abortion you don't understand the physical and mental pain it can cause in a woman to the degree *she* understands it?

Do I have the same level of awareness as a victim, if you will? Probably not, because I don't have the sensations to cause memories. If that's what you mean by "understand," then no, I don't.

But if you disqualify anyone without personal experience from speaking on any topic, this board will get real quiet real fast.

This Young lady is comparing babysitting her brothers kids and her experience as a kid to that of freeper who are full time parents... Its not wrong to call someone who is ignorant of a reality ignorant..

Behavior is what it is, regardless of who's observing it.
