I always hated the term "compassionate conservatatism" because the premise of the phrase is that conservatism isn't compassionate per se. Now, i'm not so sure. Maybe Bush was on to something.
I was going to say I was saddened by some posts, but now I guess I am saddened and disappointed.Oh well. Faith in humanity dashed again. When I first read the story, yes, I know it was posted in News, not Religion, I thought that FReeper prayers would be said for a little life too quickly ended. You know the kind of thread I am talking about, the picture of a guardian angel on one post, prayers for the innocent baby on another, a FR thread that if shown to the grieving family might bring just the slightest bit of comfort.I can only hope that they never ever ever happen upon this thread.
Christopher's mama will blame herself forever. No more sticky hugs, no more of his smiles, no more hearing his voice. Christopher will never grow up, will never fall in love, will never grow old. God Bless this family Lord. Find a way to ease their pain, and let them know that their precious baby is in a better place.
I'm going to stop reading now and call my grandson. He can blow kisses on the phone now, and this grandma is in need of them.
I won't go into that other thread other than to say that I disagree with you.
As for compassion, I totally disagree. We are seen as mean because we are tough. We hold high standards and demand that people meet them. Guess what? We hold ourselves to those same standards and that's why we move forward. We're not mean, we just mean what we say. We have beliefs and standards and the left doesn't.
Bush used the term to convince us that he was a conservative and to hide the fact that he loved big government and wanted to spend lots of money showing his love. He sure isn't compassionate about the people whose money he's taking to show his compassion, is he?
