Should There Be a Probation Period for Posting Threads?
Posted on 07/22/2006 8:04:58 AM PDT by RedRover
Enemies of Free Republic sign up to post obscene and vile threads. I've seen a number of them lately, usually on the theme of child-rape. It seems there is a concerted effort to drive Freepers away from the site in disgust. The Mods are quick, still I wonder if it's wise to allow people to sign up and immediately post? I'm a Dollar-a-Day donor to FR and I want this wonderful place to flourish as family-friendly site. I wonder what other Freepers think?

What is the first thing you do when you see obscene and vile threads?
Notify all my friends, of course. Duh..

For those who feel all warm and fuzzy with snooty nannies, try Lucianne.com.

LOL
I don't know which is funnier-- the idea that someone at DU considers himself or herself the pope and thinks that papal infallibility means that there's no differing views tolerated on anything; or that they really believe that the pantaloonless one is a "good" Catholic.
Bwhahahahahahaha

My favorite type of vanity is the opus.
Me too! Especially the "insect on the windshield" ones with lots of hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing ;'}

Yes and No, Since it has been forever since I signed up... I am not sure exactly what the time limit was, but I do remember I did a one man FReep and could not post a thread back then because I was too new. So there was some sort of time limit (but not sure how long it is now, if any at all).
Sometimes timelines may work against FR.. so lurkers, go ahead and make a FR account (use a password that is easy to remember, so you can use it when needed). That way when and if you need to post a good thread... you will be armed to do so.

I agree with cripplecreek. Experienced FReepers have fun and really do some zotting and weed these RATS out.
To: RedRover
I would like to see more openness on this board. In the spirit of fairness, let all threads and post be monitored by the individuals reading the threads and then use the abuse button, if necessary, to delete. I want to know what EVERYONE out there has to say. I believe We are a strong enough group to handle what ever is thrown our way.

To: RedRover
Since FR became more popular because of our pajama attire, there certainly are more peeps who wish they lived in their nightwear, and some certainly begin posting before they understand completely the high standards FReepers expect...
and there are always gonna be detractors intent on disrupting this incredibly informative site...
However, I don't really think there should be a probationary period. Though it would be nice if there was a way to block IP addresses once a creep has been identified by the Mods...:)
