Israel massed tanks and troops on the border Friday and warned civilians to flee Hezbollah-controlled southern Lebanon as it prepared for a likely ground invasion to set up a deep buffer zone.
An Israeli envoy said it will allow aid supplies into Lebanon, a day after the United Nations warned of a growing humanitarian crisis in the country.
Hezbollah militants fired at least 11 rockets at Israel's port city of Haifa, wounding five people. Israeli warplanes pounded Lebanon's main road link to Syria, collapsing part of Lebanon's longest bridge. A U.N.-run observation post near the border was hit, but no one was hurt.
It's hammer time!
Looks good,...gonna get nasty!

Thousands of IDF troops operating in S. Lebanon
... Thousands of Israeli troops are operating in south Lebanon where they are targetting Hezbollah positions. Among their activities, they are searching for tunnels dug by Hezbollah militants. According to the army, Hezbollah fighters have taken refuge inside these tunnels - often dug under homes in villages - along with their rockets, and that they occasionally emerge to fire one into Israel...
Will they go on the Sabbath? Hmmm. I believe they've done it before. Anyone know for sure?
I know very little about the faith and their war history but I do believe I have read that if it's question of life or death, then go ahead.
Modern Isreal will never be left in peace.
Interesting. It sounds like they're gonna try to root out as many Hezbollah terrorists as possible.
But I wonder how many of these Hezbollah a-holes recognize that Israel may launch a ground attack and are fleeing northwards - away from the action?
That's what I'm worried about.
There's no hurry to cross...unless it's a political imperative.
I'd much rather see an artillery barrage, gradually moving northward a meter at a time, until every square meter of dirt south of the Litani river has been hit. While this 3-5 day barrage is in progress, the IDF should place troops in Tyre and all along the Lebanese - Syrian border south of the Litani and then stretch them all across the country just south of the river.
Then send a couple of ARMORED DIVISIONS across the line and kill everything that moves. Every bunker should be completely destroyed and all in them killed. Anyone man of warfighting age who tries to run north or east should be shot, no questions asked. Women and children should be moved to temporary holding camps for safety.
For your safety, and the world's safety, please see to it, that EVERY terrorist encountered on the battlefield is killed as they are found, under all conditions.
Well at least they didn't accuse the IDF of hitting it, so must know that Hesbollah was in fact the one that did...much discussion of that on the live thread:
Don't know, but the Arabs once attacked on Yom Kippur, which makes all the gnashing of teeth we had in Afghanistan over whether we should observe a Ramadan truce look positively absurd.
And, one has to wonder, where are the threats of retaliations from Damascus and Tehran? Will they sit by and let their brothers be slaughtered? Are they CHICKEN!?!?!?!?!?
So they can breed another generation of fanatics?

No civilized country sets out to kill the women and children of their enemy.
Besides, once their men are killed, they typically assimilate into the winning society...as peace is their natural inclination.
Of course they're fleeing. The elemnt of surprise is gone because of the "civilians".
Probably most of them, but they'll be the ones lagging behind with the rocket launchers in tow. ;-)
It's either that, or they'll have to leave their ordnance behind to blend in as civilians.
