Honor the 241 Marines Massacred in Lebanon

It is all too easy to forget the past. As Israel, a multi-cultural, and diverse democratic nation engages in war with murderers from Hezbalah and Hamas, it is important to remember the 241 Marines who gave their lives on a peacekeeping mission in Beirut, Lebanon. These brave soldiers were rewarded for their sacrifice with a suicide bombing that used 15-20 tons of explosives by the same Hezbalah that Israel today battles. They say that those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it. The bombing was done by Hezbalah with the backing of Iran. Sound familiar? We honor the fallen, celebrate their lives but will never forget who was responsible for this-the largest death of US Marines in non-combat operations in World history.

Semper-Fi.

I met a young Marine that was a victim of this bombing. He had his ear drums blown out. God bless our Marines!

Of course every recruit at PI and SD learn about this crime perpetrated upon their fallen brothers. The general public's minds may dim, but Marine's will remember.

Revenge is the Lord's.

We'd best not be waiting on the Lord if we want to prevent more of the same.

After all, he helps those who help themselves.

We can wait on the Lord's revenge while we dispense Justice.. Well, I'll speak for myself.

I've seen His Revenge.

I guarantee I don't want to be on the receiving end.

I forgot to capitalize "He". That wasn't on purpose, just sloppy.

I will never forget and neither will my family. We fly the colors at half staff every October 22. The bombings were my inspiration for joining the Corps.

I was out with a friend that day, didnt hear the news until I came home, Mom asked me if I was going to re-enlist...I wondered what she was talking about...

I coulnd't talk for the next few days.

One of the fallen was from my home town. I never met him. Martachionne (sp?). He moved to NC in the Corps.

Mattacchione, Joseph J. ... USMC ... PVT .... 10/23/1983 .. NC .. Sanford, NC

He graduated with my youngest brother in 1981. His picture wasn't in the yearbook, only his name at the end of the pictures. From what my brother told me he moved into town in the 11th or 12th grade with his mother.
