The FairTax was on the primary ballots in three Georgia counties yesterday. I have the results of the voting! Here you go.
Gwinnett County:
Total Votes: 35,755 Yes - 31,068. 86.9% No - 4,687 13.1%
Cobb County:
Total votes: 39,458 Yes - 33,598. 85.15% No - 5,860. 14.85%
Fayette County:
Total votes: 11,517 Yes - 9,828. 85.33% No - 1,689. 14.67%
According to Boortz the results of this vote will be personally handed to President Bush today via a Washington insider. The purpose of which is to convey the FACT that there is great support for this solution to current tax system and that this is a plan that can get the voters to the polls. Many of which called and e-mailed Boortz to say that they had no plans of voting yesterday until they learned that the Fair Tax was on the ballot.

Hey Mainiac. muslims are walking up over the border illegally. some may be carrying weapons. Some protection there, eh?
You're welcome to think as you like ... even that the income tax has no inherent flaws.
Then why did they use the term "fair tax"?
It's time for the FairTax!!!
These aren't "polls." They're official vote counts.
Gwinnett, Cobb and Fayette are huge!
I was not told anything. I googled it and only found tax initiatives concerning other tax issues on georgia ballots. I did not find anything on the fair tax. Neal did not provide enough info to verify what was on the ballot. It was my bad.
Now you get the entire FT message/mantra/packaging/promotion system.
Simply sell a simplistic bill of goods to the ignorant masses with a bone to pick with an "evil entity" that they don't understand and Viola! The Great FT Lie is born.
Jim Jones did the same thing in Guiana - but nobody came back from that "koolaid" party...
Well, get on board and help us change that.
-----
I have been on board since I looked at the stub on my first paycheck as a very young man. That was a long time ago that I became painfully aware of what Washington was getting away with, courtesy of a very passive public that gets milked daily like a dairy cow.
A tax system that fairly taxes ALL CITIZENS has been a goal of mine for decades. Close down the IRS, burn the Tax Code, and get on with an expansion of our economy like this country has never seen -- and Washington would have to hired more people to count the revenues.
That is why the voters must clean it out and redefine America as the founders meant it to be.
And you accomplish this how with a solid majority of voters believing they are on the receiving end of the largess of their Congress Critters?
After all the game in Washington is measured by votes cast to return incumbants to office, and buying votes from their constitutents is the bottomline game.
From the voting records most voters seem to be happy voting for Congress Critters who bring home the gravy and make sure they continue to think they pay nil in taxes. Gotta make sure all them poor folks keep getting tax cuts you know, even when the don't pay income taxes then make sure they get credits besides. Yep them voters are really going to clean out the incumbents and redefing America as the founders meant it to be.
Wake up friend, the change needs to open the eyes of that voter first, the rest then comes naturally.
We wonder why over 60% of the voters PERCEIVE no problem with the taxrates and vote for polidiots that promise to bring home the most bacon because they believe they are the ones that benefit from higher taxes with more spending on socialistic "gimme" programs. As this continues under Bush or anyone else for that matter, expect a liberal tax and waste congress for many years to come.
We are all paying through the nose, rich and poor while politicians play the tune of envy and resentment that Americans continue to respond to not understanding the full picture what is happening to them. The NRST is a means to open VOTERS eyes to the reality.
Alan Keyes hammers the nail on the head:
I discussed the importance of abolishing the income tax because of its tendency to form a habit of servility in the souls of a people that accepts it. Servility of soul is bad not only in itself, it is also an open door through which will soon walk the abuses of ambitious government power. Leaders who find themselves with governmental power over a servile people will be quick to conclude that such a people exist to serve them. |
The Intent of the individual income tax is for political and social control not revenue collection. The Individual Income tax is maintained to establish and hold every person in the country perpetual legal jeopardy. That is a situation that must end with the repeal of the income tax from the statutes, and the prohibition of its use by Constitutional amendment that future generations will not face the same manner of manipulation and interference in their lives.
If we expect to see control of government spending, we had best look to make the burden visible to the whole of the electorate, not just the few designated as the token guy behind the tree.
That my friend is one of the bottomline purposes of going to the NRST, make the cost of largess perceptible to the entire electorate, even the lowest most rungs of the economic ladder.
Add to that "flat tax" systems are working in and for the top 10 fastest growing "emerging economies" in the world - and Hong Kong which has had it for 50 years, working with extreme success.
And you accomplish this how with a solid majority of voters believing they are on the receiving end of the largess of their Congress Critters?

I recall reading the quote from one of the founding fathers, and I cannot remember the exact words, but to the effect that "Once the voters realize they can vote themselves a portion of the national treasury, our Republic will be dead!"
And so it is today -- but worse, since the government uses taxation as a weapon and tool of political convenience.
What?
The Fair Tax was specifically and by itself ON the ballot!
asked as a straight up-or-down vote, by that "label" not disguised or hidden as something else. (Fair Tax as-asked listed below, with results for other questions.)

It's time for the FairTax!!!
Time to work to change how we are taxed at the national level I would say. Change for a system that assures that everyone participates, even at the lowest economic rungs of the nation.
Problem with every income tax offered flat tax or otherwise half the electorate ends up not participating, many acutally totally of the tax rolls.
Certainly is a guaranteed way to assure the incumbant wins the prize as long as he delivers more goodies.
Boortz is selling snake oil, no question, but he's no Jim Jones. I don't think he's a kool-aid fan anyway -- he probably prefers that other company that made Goofy Grape, Jolly Olly Orange and Loud-Mouth Lime.
The sales tax removes a portion of expenses from lenders - tax costs. That portion is easy to identify by looking at similar debt instruments that are sold as "tax free".
The difference is about 25%, or at today's rates, bringing a conforming 30 yr conventional down from appx 6 3/8 to 4 3/4.
Again, the reason for the reduction in interest rates is independent of the economy's performance. Generally, tax-free rates are appx 25% less.
A tax system that collects the same amount of money does nothing to increase buying power on average.
Your statement is not correct. I think you mean to say,
A tax system that collects the same amount of money does nothing to increase buying power on aggregate.
That would be ok - but since the tax base is broader, anyone who is LEGAL in today's income tax system would have more buying power under the nrst. But the aggregate - the total that can be purchased, will remain stable. THose who are LEGAL today will be able to buy more. Those who are ILLEGAL in today's system will be able to buy less.
On average everyone will come out the same.
No, today's LEGAL particpants in the income tax will come out better. The millions of illegals will begin taking some of the burden off us legal folks. The unknown number people who currently evade taxes by underreporting or by earning cash illegally will help take some of the burden off us legal folks. This is why those who currently - and quite easily - evaide the income payroll tax system are against the nrst... they'll have to pay.
In practice, there will be many who benefit, and many who don't.
Can you construct an example of someone who won't benefit? I've asked you to do this before but you didn't.
And making our exports more competitve will be a benefit at the expense of adding costs to imports.
Imports will have the nrst added to them, just like domestic stuff. However, also like domestic stuff, the prices of imports will not go up by the cost of the nrst added. Foreign importers have a very high profit margin here. They will either reduce their profit margin to put them in the same relative position to US prices as they do today, or they can lose market share.
And, you have touched on one of the reasons that there will be so many companies who choose to come to the US to manufacture. That'll help our manufacturing base - which has shrunk over 50% as pct of GDP in the last 50 years or so.
