Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says America is in World War III and President Bush should say so. In an interview in Bellevue this morning Gingrich said Bush should call a joint session of Congress the first week of September and talk about global military conflicts in much starker terms than have been heard from the president.
"We need to have the militancy that says 'We're not going to lose a city,' " Gingrich said. He talks about the need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy.
Gingrich said he is "very worried" about Republican's facing fall elections and says the party must have the "nerve" to nationalize the elections and make the 2006 campaigns about a liberal Democratic agenda rather than about President Bush's record.
Gingrich says that as of now Republicans "are sailing into the wind" in congressional campaigns. He said that's in part because of the Iraq war, adding, "Iraq is hard and painful and we do not explain it very well."
But some of it is due to Republicans' congressional agenda. He said House and Senate Republicans "forgot the core principle" of the party and embraced Congressional pork. "Some of the guys," he said, have come down with a case of "incumbentitis."
Gingrich said in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III.
He lists wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, this week's bomb attacks in India, North Korean nuclear threats, terrorist arrests and investigations in Florida, Canada and Britain, and violence in Israel and Lebanon as evidence of World War III. He said Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and "connect all the dots" for Americans.

World War III was the great battle against Communism from 1946-1991.
WW4 has been going on since 1979 with the rise of militant Islam in Iran and the taking of our hostages for 444 days.

I completely agree. Such a move would shoot retail prices into the stratosphere, kicking off a monstrous inflation in the U.S. -- but it would also go a long way toward finally killing the oil-based, road-centered culture in this country.
With gasoline and oil rationed for military and emergency use only, everything deilvered or produced using cheap imported oil would suddenly become horribly expensive -- and Americans would finally feel the sting of war. We would at last be forced to sacrifice for victory. The end of the cheap-gas illusion would require us to switch from chemically-fertilized, agribusiness-produced, truck-shipped cheap food to the pricier fare from our local farms and dairies for our daily bread. The result: better-tasting, healthier food, produced by familiy farmers instead of godless industrial conglomerates. (Victory gardens would also make a big comeback.) Commuting by car would cease, forcing Americans to travel by bus, train, and bicycle, improving the health, nerves, and breathing of urban Americans. Instead of wasting time downloading porn and smoking pot, neighbors would find themselves obliged to band together to share food and clothes, hoe each other's vegetable patches, fix the local doctor's bicycle, swap chores, and generally help each other out. Best of all, America could finally begin building a new generation of safe nuclear power plants on a 24/7 basis, allowing us to finally gain energy independence and tell the rest of the world to kiss our red-white-and-blue striped asses.
But we won't do any of that. Americans go nuts if gas goes up a quarter a gallon; if it went up to ten dollars a gallon -- or became unavailable a any price to those without a Federal Emergency Petroleum Authority "T" Sticker -- there will be riots in the streets demanding cheap gas. We prefer the illusory "freedom" of personal automobile transport to the real fredom that comes from living in a self-sufficient nation.

It won't happen while Bush is President. If NYC or any other U.S. city got nuked; Bush would level the top 10 M*slim cites, then get on TV and ask if they wanted to go double or nothing...The M*slims would stop instantly; respecting the overwhelming force of their enemy (us)...and they KNOW IT!
However, after January 20, 2009, when Madam President Hillary is in office, the M*slims will "Test" her as they are now testing the new Israeli government. I predict a Fall 2009 testing of the new President, whoever it is.

We've got more oil under Colorado alone than there is in the middle east. Six months, and we'd have our own supply of $30/barrel oil for the next thousand years.
This says it all! Cut them off and many of our problems cease to exist.
Oil from Mexico, South America, open Texas Oil Fields and others that were tapped because it was cheaper to get it elsewhere.
You know, I've not liked him for years because of the "bad decisions" he made in the past with regard to his personal life; decisions that tend to make one think of him as a "low-life" in the "character/morality" departments.
But, from a strictly political standpoint, the more I hear from him, the more I like him. I might be able to vote for him if Condi doesn't run.
Mark Warner, who could end up running for president in 08 if Hillary dies of a heart attack or something, dynamited the Rappahannock river dam at Fredericksburg Va. for the sake of one stupid fricking fish which couldn't deal with it.
For those of you who might be wondering to whom I am referring my post #90, it IS Newt Gingrich.
We have a lot of oil, we just tend to ignore it because Middle Eastern oil is quite a bit cheaper to get at. However, it should be pointed out that the current price of oil is well above the cost of drilling in the US anyway.
There are several reasons why we don't bother drilling our own oil as much as we could: 1) If we use up all the Arabs' oil first we never wind up in a situation where we have no choice but to rely on them, 2) By drilling elsewhere, we satisfy our econuts and democrats, and 3) Cheap Middle Eastern Oil gives Exxon-Mobil obscene profit margins.
Especially when you compare him to the liberal GOP losers who the media are trying to push off on us. If the Pub nominee is either Giuliani or McCain, I will not vote for Giuliani and would only vote for McCain if Hillary is the Dem nominee.
Newt may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I will gladly vote for him in both the primaries and the general election if he's running.
