DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Syria will put its resources at the disposal of Lebanon to help cope with Israeli attacks devastating the country, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Lebanese President Emile Lahoud by phone on Saturday.

The official news agency SANA said Assad expressed solidarity with Lebanon, where Israeli bombing has killed around 100 civilians since Hizbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border operation on Wednesday.
It was the first comment by Assad since the confrontation began between Israel and Hizbollah, which is backed by Syria and Iran.
SANA did not say whether Assad discussed Hizbollah during the telephone call with Lahoud and gave no details on what kind of help he was offering.

oh boy.. the axis of evil all jumping in.. Bush was right!
This is the same as a formal declaration of war.
You don't 'assist' the Lebonese unless your intent is to destroy Israel.
And I'm quite sure he wasn't suggesting 'food and blankets'.
Yogurt?
Pork chops!
You gotta get all the cans of garbage moved to the curb before the Garbage Truck comes to take it away. This isn't all of it; but it's a good start.
Little cocktail weenies, one mounted on the front of each of his soldiers.
Hezbolla running out of missiles already?
No, it's not. Lebanon hasn't declared war on Israel and its armed forces are making no attempt to stop the Israelis.
Nor is there any indication that Lebanon asked for Syrian help.
Pita bread, chopped dates and maybe some felafel.
If he means humanitarian help, bully for him. If he means the Syrian army is going back into Lebanon he'd better strap his helmet on tight because Damascus will become a war zone.
No, it is nothing like that. The statement is vague, and deliberately so.
Hmmmmm...
" Syria will put its resources at the disposal of Lebanon "
So many possibilities.............
Talk about pigeons coming home to roost, axis of evil is right.
If the intent is to suppy arms and equipment, as well as possible troups, then I can't see a distinction. Even if they don't speak the word 'war'.
If it is not their intent, then Israel would be wise to ignore them with 'one eye open'. (which they probably do)
OK, all Hezzies, head to Syria right away. Syria is going to help Lebanon comply with UN 1559. Then the world will help Lebanon scour clean the southern part of their country and rebuild.
Flathead's got his-self a death wish...
