Commentary: War on Iran Has Begun
The New York Sun ^ | July 13, 2006 | DAVID TWERSKY

Just last Friday, Iranian President Ahmadinejad warned that Israel's return to Gaza could lead to an "explosion" in the Islamic world that would target Israel and its supporters in the West.

"They should not let things reach a point where an explosion occurs in the Islamic world," ...

"If an explosion occurs, then it won't be limited to geographical boundaries. It will also burn all those who created [Israel] over the past 60 years," he said, implicitly referring to America and other Western nations who support Israel.

Years from now, the kidnapping of Corporal Gilad Shalit will be regarded like the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

Against the backdrop of Kassam rocket fire on Israelis living within range of the Gaza Strip, it was the fate of Corporal Shalit that triggered the Israeli return to Gaza, which in turn brought the Hezbollah forces into the game.

Israel is fighting two Iranian proxies on two fronts.

It may, or may not, open a third front against a third Iranian proxy, Syria.

It is from the Syrian capital that Khaled Meshaal, the exiled leader of Hamas, has been laying down Palestinian Arab negotiating conditions.

Why listen to Mr. Meshaal? ...

Even more loyal to Tehran is the Hezbollah leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, whose forces yesterday kidnapped two more Israeli soldiers, opening up the second front.

Sheik Nasrallah is warning Israelis that they must not think Lebanon is unprotected as it was in 1981 and 1982 when Israeli forces came pouring across the border to silence Palestinian Arab guns.

Sheik Nasrallah's men are the recipients of tens of thousands of rockets — longer range and presumably more deadly than their roughly engineered younger Kassam cousins — that put central Israel in their range.

"They should not let things reach a point where an explosion occurs in the Islamic world," ..."

Gosh now Captain Kirk with the Prime Directive non interference position.

Let the explosion kill all of the Goys and non Goys over on the other side of the world away from your little cubicle.

.

What a moron!

One of my coworkers got out of Iran by the skin of his teeth when the Mullahs took over (his dad was a bigwig in the Shah's army), and he told me pretty much the same thing this afternoon.

He still has relatives living in Iran and they meet in Europe about once a year. According to one of his cousins, the Iranian government has been orchestrating the situation with Israel for years, trying to maneuver them into just the right situation so they can launch their "final war against the Zionist pigs".

Parviz shuddered when he told me this, stating that if Iran ever tries to take on Israel in a head-to-head fight, there will not be much left of his homeland when the war is over.

"This is an inflamatory (titled) editorial, not breaking news."

I agree. It should be moved and better labeled.

Israel itself says it is now at war.

At war? Yes. With Iran? Not yet.

Any time a Muslim warns you about something, it means he is unprepared to counter it. Remember Saddam's anemic "Mother of all Battles"? Let's Roll!!

I hope he's alive, and I hope he knows what Israel is doing to rescue and protect him.

You posted a commentary in breaking news. I changed your title by adding "Commentary" and took this out of breaking news.

Israel Air Force planes struck a bridge in the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, and the fuel stores of the Jiyyeh power plant south of the city early on Friday...

Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah has his office and residence in the district of Haret Hreik in south Beirut. Hezbollah's Shura Council, its decision-making body, and the TV station are also located in that area, a section heavily guarded by Hezbollah.

Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon, striking bridges, roads, and the runways of the international airport and two major army air bases to put pressure on the government and force Hezbollah to free two Israeli soldiers the group captured Wednesday.

IAF aircraft struck the main highway linking Beirut to the Syrian capital Damascus early on Friday...

"What about the carrier group in the Arabian Sea?"

You're right. We can bet they are in a state of heightened alert regarding Iran.

Israel Air Force warplanes earlier blasted runways at the main Lebanese army air base in eastern Lebanon near Syria's border Thursday evening...

Jets dropped two bombs on the runway at the Rayak air base in the eastern Bekaa Valley...

Rayak, 50 kilometers east of Beirut and about seven kilometers west of the Syrian border, is home to the country's main military air base and is military headquarters in eastern Lebanon.

Shortly afterward, the IAF also bombed the small military airport of Qulayaat in northern Lebanon...

It was the third airport to be hit by Israel on Thursday, cutting off all of Lebanon's civilian and military air access.
