"I think the films "Stalag 17" and "The Great Escape" had more to do with it."

One of the best movies ever made!

Oh good grief. It was a Hollywood fantasy comedy. Even when Hollywood tries to depict war realistically (which they weren't here) they get a lot wrong. Who would take Hogan's Heroes seriously?. But then, I suppose someone thought the Beverly Hillbillies or Gilligan's Island were realistic. Sheesh.

BTW, we recently bought the DVD set for the first two seasons. It's still really funny.

It's like saying that science is harmed when the Professor on Gilligan's Island builds a nuclear reactor out of the guts of the transistor radio and couple of coconut shells.

Feh. Chuck Norris could make one out of just dirt.

It made some large coin for Der Bingle.

It would be of interest to hear from some who may have some experience with this via an Uncle, Father or other friend or relative.

I knew one man who was a WWII POW in Germany. He said that the Germans supplied some fairly advance math textbooks to them, as language is not so problematic with Math. Many of the POW's were pilots or navigators, so they took the books and taught classes on Math to those who were interested. He came out with a very high level of math knowledge during his time spent there.

He also commented that their food was no worse then the 'crap that the krauts ate', to quote him verbatim. All in all I never heard him complain of poor treatment, but then he did not discuss this aspect of his life very much.

Yep, it's one of those movies that if it is showing on TV, I drop what I'm doing and watch it. Remember the 50!

Don't forget LeBeau - he escaped the Nazi's as well.

Bob Crain got alot out of the show. Gave him the opportunity to "pick-up" women all over the place, make home made porn, and get his brains bashed in.

Screw you.

Oh Please.

He never would have gotten the chance. Chuck would have had The Minnow fixed in a day and still have time to doodle Ginger, Mary Anne and just cause he is a gentlemen, Mrs. Howell.

Let me guess - delivering pizzas is not a sure-fire way to meet dozens of bored, gorgeous women?

I have it on DVD. I'm not generally a fan of the genre (was movies), but that movie is positively riveting! (not to mention FUNNY at times -- McQueen and Garner have some wonderful lines).

He should have stuck to her and the beers and stayed away from the porn making in the hotel rooms.

For G-d's sake.

I mean, can we reach back to a show discontinued 40 years ago, and maybe in syndication another 10 years after that?

30-40 years is too long to wait before criticizing a show.

My late brother in law, an infantry captain, was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He later escaped, and didn't want to say much about it. He did say, though, that even though his dog tags identified him as a Jew, the Wehrmacht did not treat him differently than other allied POWs.

One of these times that plane Garner is flying is going to make it!

It's like the Dirty Dozen, just once I want to see Jim Brown make it to that truck.
