As we went to press, the Israeli Army, which announced several days ago that it had halted a major military operation against terrorist bases in northern Gaza, was preparing to send a large military force back in to stop the continuing rocket attacks from Gaza which have made normal life in neighboring Israeli towns impossible. It looks increasingly doubtful that the events in Gaza will somehow be contained and that it will end up being little more than the latest skirmish in the longrunning dispute between Israel and the Palestinians. Iran, Syria and Hamas give every indication that they want the conflict to widen into a larger war. Nor does Israel seem to be shy to respond. Since Israel's founding in 1948, there have been eight Arab-Israeli wars: Israel's 1948 War of Independence; the 1956 Sinai campaign; the Six-Day War (1967); the War of Attrition (1969-1970); the Yom Kippur War (1973); the Lebanon War (1982); the first intifada (1987-92); and the second intifada, launched in September 2000. The first five of these wars involved (primarily) conflict between the Israeli military and the armies of neighboring Arab states. ..................................................... Jordan (which fought Israel tenaciously in the 1948 and 1967 wars) is deeply worried that it too is now in the terrorist crosshairs. The Hashemite Kingdom, which is being targeted by Hamas and Damascus, is said to be very worried about the possibility that Hamas and the Popular Resistance Committee (the group that kidnapped Cpl. Shalit) are seeking to create a rocket infrastructure in the West Bank, replicating what Hamas has created up in Gaza. In sum, the Shalit kidnapping may be setting into motion events that will trigger a wider war pitting Islamofascists against Israel

If that doesn't work, you kill them."
Seems simple enough for me...
Don't occupy, just destroy.
Time to push the Arabs out of Judea, Samaria, and the West Bank and back into the countries they came from.
Dunno. If the Egyptian come in on the side Arabs, it could get really bad. Between our subsidies and the new equipment we've supplied 'em, they could be pretty tough. Don't forget, some Egyptian officials actually named a price a for making war on Israel!

A ninth Arab-Israeli war?...(will trigger a wider war pitting Islamofascists against Israel)
You mean up till now they haven't been?
You are an individual of great understanding! The Arab gutter needs "a rain of ruin."
Agreed. And if we accept the claims that Saddam's WMDs were sent to Syria, or the Bekkaa Valley in Lebanon, I think we can see the outlines of precisely how Israel would be pushed to the limit. For a country as tiny as Israel, a surprise attack using large numbers of WMDs would have a very good chance of destroying them.
I fear Israel may get pushed to the brink (again) while the US dicks around with the UN Security Council.
If it comes to a serious shooting war over there, you can bet your bottom dollar that we won't be dicking around with the UN Security Council -- though it's safe to predict that we'll do that, too. There's too much at stake for the entire world, for us to let Israel go it alone. The Bush administration fully understands what an Israeli defeat would mean for the fortunes of Islamofascism.
Good point. I recall reading that at the start of the 6 Day War there was blood on the floor over weather the IDF should go into the West Bank or not.
A deal with the devil IMHO.
Iran is the wild card.
BUMP
Don't think for a second that Israel doesn't have Mossad agents in Iran. They won't be blind sided.
If that doesn't work, you kill them
really? The IDF just goes into the West Bank and starts killing any Arab they see? And then what happens?
The Arabs as a whole are insane.
Proof of it is in this statement.
If you continue to do what you've always done, you will continue to get what you always got. But if you continue to do what you've always done expecting a different outcome. You're 3 fries short of a happy meal.
This, I believe...
It's all a distraction...but a deadly one, none the less.
You occupy a few miles wide defensive strip in the south as they did for two decades while the world whined about the abuse of the local Arabs. Moves the rockets back a bit farther. Unfortunately the Christian militias aren't around any more to help.
No way, Arabs are content to "tolerate" their "foaming at the mouth" extremists banding in groups to attack Israel and the "Evil West". Gives these useless POS an outlet for their energies and death wishes. It is only when such groups cause domestic problems that they get squashed by their Arab brothers!
In the meantime, the cover of "Plausible Deniability" (hey, we're not responsible and we can't control these groups) allows Arab states to appeal to the MSM (and UN) sypathetically!

These people are just begging for an azz-kicking. Bring it on!
"And what have we seen? The Palestinians are virtually given Gaza. What do they do? They elect an outright terrorist organization, Hamas, as their government and use this new autonomy as a base to launch attacks against Israel. As I heard Victor Davis Hansen say last night, they want cell phones, the internet, dialysis, and MRIs, but they cannot get past their hatred of the Jews, and will not accept freedom of speech, gender equity, and a host of other freedoms that we take for granted. To hell with them!"
Exactly. But the technology you mention that does exist will eventually provide fair information to that people and they will wake up to the fact that other people in the world have nice lives and they can have it too if they truly choose freedom and personal accountability over dying for allah.
In fairness to the Arabs, kidnappings have worked in the past. And mortaring the civilian population has been tolerated for a year. Though Hizbollah hasn't dared till now, and they've been warned of the consequences. They miscalculated, as they frequently do.
