What is it with Boston Globe sportswriter Dan Shaughnessey and Florida cities? Trouble trouble booking a tee time? Lines too long at his favorite Disney World ride? Bad OJ in his screwdriver, perhaps?
For the second time this year, Shaughnessey took the occasion of a TV appearance to take a completely gratuituous swipe at a Florida city. As I wrote about here, back in January, appearing on ESPN's 'Rome is Burning', he called Jacksonville a 'yahoo town,' comparing it unfavorably with Detroit, which he dubbed a 'real city' because "you can get the New York Times here."
Appearing again today on 'Rome is Burning', this time Shaughnessey took aim at Orlando. The topic was whether basketball great LeBron James would remain in Cleveland, and Shaughnessey reviewed the history of other superstars remaining in smaller markets. That's when, out of the blue, he called Orlando "the ultimate yahoo town." So out-of-left-field was the comment that it left host Rome muttering.
Is this Shaughnessey's one-man vendetta against the Sunshine State, or is it reflective of an MSM culture that sneers at the sunbelt?
Oh barf! Another Kerry voter, for sure.
We see 'ol curly-top Dan Shaughnessey at most Red Sox games at Fenway, but I'm not a regular reader of his Boston Globe columns. The few columns I have read, he's seems to be cranky... always complaining about something.
I'll alert my Red Sox fan FRiends to your thread for commentary about Shaughnessey. Thanks again for the ping and for your excellent work at NewsBusters! :o)
Dan Shaughnessey (Boston Globe reporter) ping...
Surely the sportswriter meant in was a "Google town". Not a Yahoo town.
Sheesh! This grotesque disgrace to the land of Erin ought to stay in the bars and work on his tan with his buddy Teddy.
My pleasure, nutmeg. I'm truly curious as to why he has twice gone out of his way to bash Florida cities in this way.
He's an a$$h*ole of epic proportions.
"And Epstein, despite his ``bitterness" over leaks about the negotiations, ``was at peace" with his decision to return, until reading an Oct. 30 column in the Globe by Dan Shaughnessy, headlined ``Let's iron out some of this dirty laundry," that was critical of Epstein. Convinced that either Lucchino or his longtime lieutenant, Dr. Charles Steinberg, was the source of the column, Epstein e-mailed Henry with his intentions to resign the next day, according to the book.
I think the CHB nickname originated with Carl Everett who called him (in passing) "(your) Curly Headed Boyfriend"
Who really is surprised by this. He is a big Liberal. The fact he writes for the Boston Globe should should tell you that. that said. I love Florida. I do miss New Hampshire and Boston. But I do not miss putting my boat and golf clubs in storage every October. I will say this about Orlando, I only go there for Medical conferences. I find Disney and the like boring.
