What impressed me is all the RATS, including former VP Mondale, want to attack North Korea. Seemingly, the President and Rove have struck a nerve with "cut and run."

The RATS only defense for this is an oblique one. That is, flex nonexistent military verve against North Korea.

Good luck antiwar types. Less than three months from now and you will find your have a sour, unexplained defeat puckering your lips sufficient to still them at least for a while.

Just watched a snippet of Georgie Steponallofus's show and he and his buddy from the New Republic seemed to be in a panic about the democrats chances this Novwmber during the roundtable.

Donna Brazile seemed to acknowlege the reality.

George Will seemed somewhat melancholy that with Bush and the Republicans winning this week, that George Will himself has lost inlfuence with the Republican base and his voice isn't the word of the political God anymore.

I don't think it's a product of gov't schools, per se. I think the root cause may be gov't dependent parents.

I left a store the other day and this sticky-faced kid accosted me for something called "Alternative Choices" or something like that (I was afraid it was a new Gay Boy Scout thing or something.)

I asked him what it was, and he explained that it was a group that taught self-esteem to kids and that they were raising money for a field trip to San Antonio.

I surveyed the booth in front of the discount store. The table was littered with coke bottles and ice-cream wrappers, and apparently one of the kids' mom, a fat slob (she was one, I'm sorry, no better description) was hunched over chowing down on Taco Bell (at 1030AM).

I was stunned and disheartened all at once.

Afterwards, I thought I should have offered the kid 25c to carry my box to my car, and then explained that working for money is the way to self-esteem, not begging.

But, alas, I didn't think of that at the time. I just shook my head and moved on, frightened for our future.

For those two boys, a government school was probably an improved influence.

Lots of noises in his CA fundraiser. Phil Gramm (endorsed McCain this week) for treasury sec. Fred Thompson for AG. Lindsey Graham for SG. Bloomberg for Homeland Security sec.

Believe it or not, that was the big talk there.

Since when has the consensus changed from they have them already to we mustn't let them develop them?

Sorry for the late reply. I don't think the concensus has changes. The statement about developing nuclear weapons was made by one of the talking heads. They are often quite loose with their thinking and statements. I think that people are not sure yet that NK has the technology to put a a warhead on one of the Dongs.

One camp believes we have to give the 6 party talks a try. Another camp believes that negotiating with NK is immoral. I think it's more immoral to let them go nuclear.

Very nicely said.  Now, this next is not a disagreement with what you posted, but the first thing that came to mind on reading your post was a favorite quote:

Clearly Churchill wasn't against taking action when it is needed.  That doesn't mean you abandon all other approaches, but you have to go through the process, lay the legal groundwork for any actions you take.  Regardless of what Kerry, Murtha and Sheehan may bleat, our military action in Iraq was 100% legal and always has been.  It was solidly and legally based on the work done not only by this administration but from the 12 years of diplomacy, going back to the cease fire agreement from '91. 

I think the fuse is fairly short on this one, though.  I'm predicting that the next step (and what the UN resolution being voted on tomorrow contemplates) will be a maritime exclusion zone around North Korea to stop any craft carrying war materials into or out of that country.  That will completely dry up their only source of hard currency and will simultaneously cut off Iran and other's supplies of parts for their missiles, most of which were made from NK parts and plans.  And NK is in the process of burning their bridges with China by seizing the trains used to ship food aid in from there (very bizarre action). 

We darn well better have our military at full strength over there for sustained air and naval combat (probably not ground combat for now).  That will take some time and may involve "selling" some assets to Japan and Taiwan, which itself becomes leverage on China.

This game is a complicated one, but I think Bush's team is exactly the right folks to be running this show.

I haven't read the thread yet, but you were right Phsspok, Chris Wallace DID ask Hoekstra about that "leaked" letter.

However, I find it rather ironic and disingenuous of the Congressman, that the letter was sent at the exact same time of the confirmation of the CIA director, Hadley, who Hoekstra was ADAMANTLY against...

Also..Fox News just said that Hoekstra was "tipped" on the alleged intel program that Hoekstra has had his feelings hurt over, by a "whistleblower" who contacted him from the agency.

HMMMMMMM...so, NOW, they are "whistleblowers" that go to a representative...but, STILL get their story in the New York Times...JUST as the Senate and House are huffing and puffing over other programs and planning investigative hearings about..

This stinks from top to bottom to me.
