Angelides says he would sign gay marriage bill

SAN FRANCISCO - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides said Friday that if he unseats Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in November he would sign a bill legalizing gay marriage in California.

Angelides talked about the issue the day after New York's high court upheld that state's one-man, one-woman marriage laws and as a California appeals court prepared to consider whether a trial judge erred in declaring the state's marriage laws unconstitutional.

"I would sign the marriage equality bill because I believe if we can get behind people to build a lasting relationship, that is a good thing," Angelides said at a news conference where Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., urged voters to support him.

The California Legislature last year became the first lawmaking body in the nation to legalize gay marriage. Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill, saying it was up to voters or the courts, not lawmakers, to settle the matter.

The measure's sponsor, Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, plans to reintroduce it in December after the election.

Clinton, who does not support gay marriage, refused to answer questions about Thursday's court ruling in her home state, but made a brief pitch on Angelides' behalf.

Thankfully this can only get worse for Angeledes.

(odd the OTHER states's governorship candidate of hellenic decent has quite the opposite stituation. But then again he is a Republican and supports traditional marriage)

"""
Republican Schwarzenegger led state Treasurer Angelides 44 to 37 percent in a statewide survey conducted June 26-30 by the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University. The poll has a four point margin of error.

A similar survey in March had the governor leading by just three points -- 40-37 -- over Angelides, who at the time was locked in a bitter primary.

Using almost non-stop television ads, Schwarzenegger has widened the gap while depriving Angelides of the typical post-primary bounce.

Angelides would sell his mother and children to win the governorship. I love the commercial that ran/runs saying that maybe Westly was right. I don't really have a choice between Arnold and a fool who apparently advocates taxing farm equipment?! So, Arnold it is...

I agree with you. I, or anyone, has the right to be disappointed in the Big Guy, but we also have a responsibility to be pragmatic. We might only get 50% of what we want from Arnold, but Angelides would be a disaster.

Oh my goodness. I thought the smear tactics during the primary were bad. Obviously I wouldn't vote for either one of them, but Angelides had me fooled with his happy family ads. I don't think his girls are butt ugly either, but he is. Inside and out...

Proof that the self destructive left, champions of self destructive policies, are headed for complete and utter irrelevancy one way or the other. If in power they would take the rest of society with them. I say no thanks to the leftist lunatic lemming brigade -they can skip hand in hand waving rainbow flags and go off the cliff all by their lonesomes...

Me thinks you worry too much.

Agelides hasn't prayer in hell. All the union money in California and Massachusetts combined, won't be able to peddle this package of damaged goods.

California is stuck with an Austrian liberal, barring any highly unlikely, unforeseen, political disasters.

More like one of those kiddie bike helmets ;-)

The dems don't like him, either. He just lost the Hispanic and Black vote with this nonsense. I do believe that Arnold will honor his promise not to raise taxes, to the best of his ability.

Hey Arnold, unleash your bow and fire that arrow!

Hey, it's California! There's a greater chance of political disasters happening here than anywhere else in the nation.

"The Gubinor previously has left it up to the courts to decide and said he will abide by their decision. "

====

You omitted to mention that Arnold VETOED the homosexual marriage bill that the Legislature passed. What you said was part of the explanation he gave, but the bottom line is that he VETOED it, while Anglides promises to sign it. You also omitted to mention that Arnold said that the people of CA had voted on the issue and he is not about to overturn their will.

And the CA Legislature would pass another one, that Angelides would sign.

Arnold also said he will veto the homosexual education bill, mandating educating children about homosexuals.

Again, how is this Arnold's fault? So I got the date wrong. It doesn't negate the fact that Arnold had nothing to do with the ruling AND the fact you got just about nothing else right. Yeah, you know what you're talking about...hick.

THere is another one I like:

Small-business owners favor Schwarzenegger (Small Bus. Org. Endorses Arnold by 95% of the vote)

Only 1 percent of the people who employ the majority of working Californians supports State Treasurer Phil Angelides for governor, the survey shows.

I'll give you that one!

Any natural disasters, however, and the Austrian is in with a landslide, since he has repeatedly promoted preparations for floods, earth quakes, global warming, drought and the commuter rush.

If the ground shakes, or the heavens part, or the wells run dry, or the 101 clogs up the 405, the Austrian is king.

So care to respond to any of the facts I cited including the fact that Arnold vetoed the legislatures gay marriage bill and that he sent the attorney general after the city of San Fran for allowing gay marriage or do you just want to assume you're right when you're wrong just because I got the year of a ruling wrong? I'll wait...in vain no doubt.
