Angelides says he would sign gay marriage bill
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 07/07/06 | Lisa Leff

SAN FRANCISCO - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides said Friday that if he unseats Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in November he would sign a bill legalizing gay marriage in California.

Angelides talked about the issue the day after New York's high court upheld that state's one-man, one-woman marriage laws and as a California appeals court prepared to consider whether a trial judge erred in declaring the state's marriage laws unconstitutional.

"I would sign the marriage equality bill because I believe if we can get behind people to build a lasting relationship, that is a good thing," Angelides said at a news conference where Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., urged voters to support him.

The California Legislature last year became the first lawmaking body in the nation to legalize gay marriage. Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill, saying it was up to voters or the courts, not lawmakers, to settle the matter.

The measure's sponsor, Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, plans to reintroduce it in December after the election.

Clinton, who does not support gay marriage, refused to answer questions about Thursday's court ruling in her home state, but made a brief pitch on Angelides' behalf.

Do "they" pay you by the post, and do you get extra if you all jump on at once

What a bunch of pitiful excuses you three are and yet you seek to be seen as representative of the careful, reasoning element of the (M)ilk...

LOL

Oh well. birds of a feather and all.

Folks we need to realise what Angelides represents.

He is a Grey Davis democrat who has been placed on the ticket over his more charismatic rival exactly to give the power back to the monied interest groups.

California is one politically screwed up state. Republicans can never ever get their infrastructure together without actually winning seats.

Arnold has the power of incumbancy and this can creat positive coattails. This means he can help in the LOCAL ELECTIONS.

There are multiple fronts in CF. This issue can and must be used to define Anglelides as the far left, out of touch political hack that he is. A landslide majority voted for keeping marriage one man and one woman, that same majority will equally oppose a man who will use his power to overturn that landslide majority.

We have to build with victory, victory is never won by surrendering.

"Norm, I thought you were a Tom McClintock supporter. Why does that stop at his battle with Arnold against Angelides?"

THIS is an excellent question.

... I could roll over tomorrow ...

I sure don't want you to do that! I'd settle for you to quit campaigning against republicans, especially during this general election season. Vote, don't vote however you like, but stop trying to lead the herd to republican defeat. Should be easy, but as you accuse FO of continuing 'doing his thing', you'll continue to play the innocent as you muckrake.

So you personally know that Tom must be lying?

I'm either to believe you or him.

LOL.. nice try Doodle.. but you folks are either intensely driven , almost obsessed with a lockstep agenda, it makes me wonder about who you folks really are as well.

It would seem more like disruptors as this plays out.

No surprise in any case, You make your own leaps in judgment about all kind of other folks, why should I be any different?

What in the hell are you talking about, Norm.

I'm one person here. One vote. One question.
How can you possibly claim to be a Tom McClintock man?
He's in the fight of his life with Arnold.

PS

I'll be voting for a whole pile of Republicans, many of them who are actually real conservatives and not
NM pretenders.

I am trying to understand your alst post, but it makes no sense to me..

I , too am one person, so why do you and others want to work me over so intensely for one other measly vote?

If you have issues with me like you apparently do with others, hit the abuse, make your case. other wise. go take a walk.

You and the rest of the NM crew are pretty tedious to even try and discuss issues with. always have been for the most part. I can't wait to see what october is like around here.

we'll need straight jackets and extra padding for some of you, it appears.

We all must make an individual choices and bear the consequences, Tom may do as he wish, he has certainly not held back criticism on any number of issues to date including the state budget and the many proposed measures.

I expect more from him in the coming days, and obviously from you as well. ;-)

SERIOUS QUESTION FOLKS:

Do any of the California Freepers know people of Greek decent? It would help the election out if you would talk to them and tell them Angelides is pushing for homosexual based marriage.

(as in recruiting your children, as in no grandchildren)

Many go to Greek Diners, Angeledes will be groveling to have the greek diners put up signs in the window. Tell the diner owners that an Angelides sign is like him comming out of the closset.

No "manga" (manly greek) will allow such a besmirchment to stand.

We need cut off Angelides supply lines.

Not to fret.

Actually , we have a pretty exciting down ticket this year, we may not win them all but at least winning half would be a real positive and major stpe forward and message to the Ca GOP leadership, most of those are not moderate candidates, they are conservatives.

Too bad Ray Haynes is out of the mix this go around,

I hope he gets back in the mix in '08 and even '2010 as Lt Gub under Tom.
