Angelides says he would sign gay marriage bill
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 07/07/06 | Lisa Leff

SAN FRANCISCO - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides said Friday that if he unseats Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in November he would sign a bill legalizing gay marriage in California.

Angelides talked about the issue the day after New York's high court upheld that state's one-man, one-woman marriage laws and as a California appeals court prepared to consider whether a trial judge erred in declaring the state's marriage laws unconstitutional.

"I would sign the marriage equality bill because I believe if we can get behind people to build a lasting relationship, that is a good thing," Angelides said at a news conference where Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., urged voters to support him.

The California Legislature last year became the first lawmaking body in the nation to legalize gay marriage. Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill, saying it was up to voters or the courts, not lawmakers, to settle the matter.

The measure's sponsor, Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, plans to reintroduce it in December after the election.

Clinton, who does not support gay marriage, refused to answer questions about Thursday's court ruling in her home state, but made a brief pitch on Angelides' behalf.

Judging by the basic likability factor, Arnold should win again. Angelides seems like a dork, just be looking at him.

I want to know, because we share the CA threads, and it's helpful to see where you stand.

Easy decision or not, I find it impossible to believe you are undecided.

What does that mean, Norm?
You hope his lead holds ~ does that mean he has your vote?

Hopefully he won't need it, or miss it. How's that?

I have a lot of other races that I shall cast votes for, so it won't be a complete loss. plus a sloughful of initiatives, agian.

Then Norm, why do you mock others for supporting Tom and Arnold's fight against Angelides?

The only posts I've seen from you are little punkass remarks and insults against proven facts you call "faux-bull", yet can't refute, which seems to be your problem!

"the only reason you want to know is so you can mock someone who is exercising their constitutional right to cast a ballot as they see fit. "

===

Nobody is questioning your right to vote for whomever you wish.

The point, is that your VOTE IS A REFLECTION OF WHO YOU ARE.

SMART CONSERVATIVES know that voting third party, staying home, or even voting for Anglides as a protest (Zogby poll showed 16% of self described conservatives planned to vote for Angelides)WILL GET US ANGELIDES, which would be a total disaster for CA, so smart conservatives will get out and vote for Arnold.

So, anyone voting third party, staying home, or even voting for Anglides is showing themselves to be either less than smart (to put is in a charitable way) or is NOT a conservative.

So what will YOU do on election day? (The "YOU" meant generically to everyone reading this post -- THINK about the CONSEQUENCES of your action.)

Be a smart Conservative and don't allow Angelides to get into power and destroy CA with the help of the unchecked lib Dem CA Legislature.

NormsRevenge:"I can live with the results either way, something which a lot of folks here do not seem to be able to claim the same, for whatever particular reasons or agenda.

====

THIS attitude going into the election, that YOU DO NOT MIND if Angelides wins and is almost hoping for it, AND deriding those who want to everything in their power to STOP Angelides and make sure Arnold gets reelected is DEFINITELY NOT a conservative attitude. Read my definition of a smart conservative in the previous post.

From Angeledes (see also Angelides)

http://www.angelides.com/media/news/2006_0119_marriage.html

Matthew S. Bajko
Bay Area Reporter
January 19, 2006

No matter which man becomes the party's candidate in June, for LGBT voters it one of the rare times they do not have to make a "lesser of the two evils" choice, such as the last presidential election. Senator John Kerry's (D-Massachusetts) stance on gay marriage varied little from President Bush's views.

"Our community is enormously fortunate because the choices before us need not be determined by commitment to LGBT civil rights," said Leno, who noted that Westly "has been very firm and steadfast in support" of his bill.

.....

He said his main reason for wanting to unseat Schwarzenegger is so he can "put the state of California back on the side of the people, whether it is gay couples or the kid who wants to go to college. I will take us in a very different direction."

You're full of yourself , as usual.

Ever wonder how bad off we would be were Gray never removed from office, just a thought. I don;t find it that unusual that even some of the (M)ilk express a similar sentiment.

The Ca GOP has dorked this whole mess up in a big way and now will have to stew in the soup they cooked up. You want to claim that is a good thing, I have a feelinh you will, be my guest, some of us are up to here with the equivocating some of you toss out ..

That ought to keep ya busy snipping and cutting and pasting for awhile.

LOLOL

Why not just try being a conservative for a change yoiurslef huh?

You seem to think you can prance you moderateness around and everyone has to bow to your munificence.

Keep coming back for more of the same. The doors are always open here. Make sure ya donate to FR too while your at it. It's the least you can do for trying to convert it into a Moderate bulletin board.

Yes, I am proud to be a smart conservative and vote for Arnold.

I don't see how you can claim to be a conservative and be proud of yourself for helping Anglides get elected.

Every vote is going to be important.

I just came across an article predicting a high voter turnout, which usually favors the Dems, because the turnout is high as a result of the unions turning out their base and guess who they vote for?

Any honest dialog with the ilk herd is twisted and used to disrupt the base. It isn't worth the effort to dispute those who would only divide the base.

Look in the mirror sometime , ever feel guilty that you represent the face of deceit and what some here will do to carry water for the more el\left than right agenda of the New Majority. That is all you are to me here, nothing more.

I could roll over tomorrow and acquiesce to your "demands" yet you would still be out there doing your thing.

I would think you would have some respect for others and their beliefs and opinions, but obviously you don't.

Hence your name which is a total disconnect from your offerings under same moniker.

Have a nice day. Hint. Don't drop the soap in the
NM shower.
