(AgapePress) - The National Education Association (NEA) has voted overwhelmingly to endorse legal civil unions and same-sex "marriages."
The president of the Alabama Education Association had asked that the resolution supporting legal homosexual unions be referred back to the Resolutions Committee. The NEA Resolutions Committee earlier had deleted a controversial amendment to its "Diversity" policy (known as B-8), which would have comprehensively endorsed same-sex marriage. Consequently, the Alabama delegate's request would have left the union without a homosexual marriage resolution for the upcoming school year. But NEA delegates voted not to refer the resolution, and then voted to accept the resolution.
The approved resolution affects Section B-10 of the NEA handbook ("Racism, Sexism, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification Discrimination"), in which the union states its belief that discrimination based on such factors as "... race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification ...." must be eliminated. The amendment to B-10 (in bold below) reads:
"The Association also believes that these factors should not affect the legal rights and obligations of the partners in a legally-recognized domestic partnership, civil union, or marriage in regard to matters involving the other partner, such as medical decisions, taxes, inheritance, adoption, and immigration."
California teacher Jeralee Smith, past chairman of the NEA Ex-Gay Educators Caucus, says she is considering leaving the union. "People who share our values, which is traditional family and a few other things, can have no integrity unless they are either active on the inside to try and change things, or they leave the union and take their money out of the union's hands," says Smith.
Smith acknowledges that Christian members of the NEA are faced with a decision. "I just think it's time for Christians to really pray about their relationship to the union and do some real soul-searching on their loyalty," she says. And if they find their loyalty is still with the union, Smith suggests they ask themselves "just how much loyalty does the union deserve at this point?"
Smith says she is outraged the NEA is pushing for "gay," lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues to be required content for teacher credentialing. The union's Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification issued a report stating "that the NEA advocate for the inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues in the 'National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education' teacher education program review process."
The powerful teachers union, after heated debate, also decided to replace the word "tolerance" with the word "acceptance" in NEA policies.
>>>What in the sam-hell does the NEA have to do with marriage?
Get diverse relationships in school classrooms via books, speakers and lord knows what else.
I second your motion!
At least they're being honest. Almost all of us can "tolerate" homosexuality--we just don't want to be forced to accept it as a social norm, or have it foisted on our schoolchildren.
They've made it clear where they stand, and so should we.
I guess I was a little harsh...and didn't take into consideration that there are Freeper teachers..BUT, I am glad you feel that way..
I am sorry...but I usually don't come out that strong...but, I have 2 granddaughters...1 will be in the 2nd grade this year...the other is only 1 year old..but, I worry that by the time they get much older, I will NOT trust either of them to set foot inside of a public school..because of an "indoctrination" possibility.
They are the Borg.
Stuff like this is why my children will never see the inside of a public school.
Frankly I'm not sure if there'd be any difference in turning them over to the red chinese to be educated or to the nea.
Actually -it is a leftist blog take.
I quit the NEA in 1977 and I never looked back.
I have a great fakin idea - how about you endorse some educatuion of students. I don't know maybe math, English, and some science. Maybe then the bubblegum smacking highschool female working at my supermarket tonight would know how to count change and speak a language that does not sound like Yo MTV Raps.
Sorry Rant Off
The NEA assists with accreditation.
If a teacher candate only TOLLERATES homosexuals, not ACCEPTS they have not committed a thought crime and are not allowed to be accredited.
or so the goal is.
The NEA need to go.
The question is how to hurt them financially.
Their actions speak a lot louder than their spin.
What in hell does gay marriage have to do the teachers union? Someone needs to let teachers know what they are paying to support.
I hear the insurance ploy from my sister all the time. I suppose the Union thugs scare all the teachers with but you can not do without our insurance if you get sued nonsence. I ask RALLY is that the truth or a well organized piece of propaganda. Why can't the majority of teachers stand up aganist the UNION thugs and either form their own union or change the corrupt one they have.
Well, there were no teachers' unions in 1966 when I began teaching and that day may soon be coming, again.
Oh they know. You should see the NEA newsletters that go out. Some articles are copied word for word from the MoveOn news items.
Of course, the NEA must make it safe for the homosexual and NAMBLA communities to have loving sexual relationships with children. In order for this to happen, same sex marriage (normalizing queer acts of rimming, fisting felching and gerbiling) must be accepted by the abnormal objectors (i.e. bigots, homophobes, rednecks, and Christians) to disgusting perverted behavior. Welcome to the education of the progressive futurists.
What does gay marriage have to do with education? This is ridiculous. Any more doubts that the public schools are social indoctrination centers? /sarc
As a veteran (and very conservative) teacher in a public school, the actions of the NEA clearly do not represent my beliefs and opinions. I am confident that a majority of my colleagues share my same sentiments. Unfortunately, and as with many other unions, the most leftist thinking members are usually the ones who serve as delegates at the large conventions and vote in favor of such absurd resolutions. I guess it's time to go "fair share" rather than continue to support such doctrine with my dollars. NEA's only remaining power is its choke hold on teachers in "closed shops" and the obstacles it places in the way of those wishing to opt out and go "fair share". If such resolutions had been promoted prior to locking in teachers in "closed shop" districts, the NEA would not exist today.
"Acceptance" bump
