As we celebrate the 230th birthday of the United States of America, our president joined the ideological, and perhaps biological, descendants of those who fought to give us our freedom by creating this new nation. The president went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to speak to and eat with the troops and their families (who gave him a birthday cake).
He will return to the White House for a July 4th celebration with family and friends. That will also serve as a birthday party for the President.
Good for you. You guys really have to stand up to these people and stay strong. I really love what you do to support the wounded warriors at Walter Reed. God bless them...and you all!
Toaster winner - I think I owe you one from the other night as well - what do you want on them?
Speaking of the Bible, as a child I would hear the scriptures about "they will be beheaded for my sake" (or something like that), and I'd think NO WAY. That's so barbaric, so primitive - won't happen in our lifetime. Well, there ya go! It's happening.
Absolutely
Yeah, I think tall/skinny guy was the one. Nuts I tell ya! I was torn...wanted to yell at him, but didn't want to. Midwest reserve, you know.
Thanks for your work in DC, and for your message to Harriet! I'll bet she was watching the fireworks with the First Family tonight.
Re the beheadings -- that really hit me. I grew up in the same *sheltered* America as you did (as in, under God's wing, not attacked on home soil, etc.). As a child I could not conceive what we accept as commonplace now (terrorists hijacking our planes, blowing up our buildings, attacking us, etc., since what, the 1970's?).
A few weeks before 9/11 I was walking on a Puget Sound beach with a friend. It was a hot August day. A glorious day with blue, clear skies. I stopped at the water's edge, looked up at the sky, thought about how free we have always been in this country, my whole life ... and said something like this to my friend as I continued looking up at the threatless sky, "We have NO idea what it is like for other nations that live under the constant treat of invasion and attack. Even our SKIES aren't a threat to us. We just do not know how blessed we are that we do not live in fear."
Of course, you and yours don't fit into that grouping I requoted from Common Tator's post. ;-)
Good morning. Thank you all. Happy Birthday America!!
The Brits I know, some friends and some relatives, don't like being called Europeans.
Correct we are an island race
Thank you for your love of our country!
as is said "famous last words"
You eat WHAT? I've never heard of that. Not sure I'd want to eat it cooked let alone raw. What is that,Snugs?
I think I'll be headin' for my beddin'... Gretchen thanks for tonight's special Dose.
Good night everyone, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
It is like a flat pea pod with very small peas inside - lovely and sweet I could eat it like you would sweets (candy).

The photo on this page looks more like sugar snaps like mangetout as they are a bit plumper but I like those raw as well
Good night
