As we celebrate the 230th birthday of the United States of America, our president joined the ideological, and perhaps biological, descendants of those who fought to give us our freedom by creating this new nation. The president went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, to speak to and eat with the troops and their families (who gave him a birthday cake).
He will return to the White House for a July 4th celebration with family and friends. That will also serve as a birthday party for the President.
Lovely photos
When I read swmobuffalo's comment, it just struck me so strongly that it would never matter what W did, I mean he could have leapt into the sky and singlehandedly diverted the plane heading for the Pentagon into a safe landing, and the libs would fault him for scaring the passengers who weren't terrorists. Their objection isn't just to what he does, it is to what is inside him. So there is nothing he can DO that will make them like him. Unless, of course, he went over to the dark side and renounced his faith, his goodness, his righteous love for this country (which, thankfully, isn't an option for him).
Thanks. It was a wonderful trip.
Hi there, Fudd Fan. Happy 4th to you, too!
You are so right. They are incredibly blind not to be able to see the goodness and Light in this man. I was talking with my 15 year old son recently when Kerry had made some comments about changing his mind on some vote. It is so clear that Kerry (and many others, including the former president) have no clear moral compass guiding their lives. They blow in the wind. How incredibly sad to live a life that way. I am so, so proud of our president.
***One of my favorite vegetable saute's is asparagus tips, sliced mushrooms, and onion slices (put the onions in first so they get tender), with garlic salt.***
Yum! Now you're talking veggies even I would like.
And thanks for the tip about olive oil first and then the butter.
The best description I've heard is a chef makes you a souffle, a short-order cook makes you a plate of scrambled eggs & bacon.
The nations of the world were pretty much divided when there were two Super powers... the United States and Soviet Union. Half hated us; half hated the Soviet Union.
Now that we are the only super power it is clear that many nations are unhappy (should I say jealous) with us. They will be unhappy as long as we act in our own self interest. If we act in such a way as to ensure our own downfall many nations will be quite happy with us. If we were to become the former Super Power, the rest of the world will tend to like us a lot. Bill Clinton was liked in Europe becuase he subverted our interests to theirs.
Many of today's nations are guided by what they see as the lessons of the cold war. If there are two super powers ,then both must court the smaller powers in an attempt to win a cold war. That is the belief of much of Europe. They see the need for two Super Powers. They would like to be one of them but if not being wooed by two powers would not be all that bad.
They can't remember that when the two superpowers were Great Britain and Germany. Then millions of people died to resolve that conflict. It is far more likely that two superpowers will fight a hot war than endure a cold war. They just don't see that as likely.
So today many in Europe see the rise of the Muslims as a counter balance to the United States. They hope to play both sides against the middle while Europe rises to power to confront us.
They should recognize, but don't, that the Muslim movement will first try to take Europe. And if successful they will try to take the United states. That would mean the World War III will be fought on the same soil as the first two world wars. That does not occur to Europeans. They think they can control muslim immigration and population growth.
But never give the Europeans intelligence enough to figure it out. Many Americans think outside the box. Few Europeans do. No one ever accused the Europeans of being bright enough to see the dangers they face. When Hitler moved into the Rhineland in 1936 his troops were ordered to retreat if the French offered any opposition at all. Hitler could have been taken out in 1936 at very little cost in men and material. Hitler had about 10 percent of the trained forces and military supplies that were available to France. Hitler's own generals warned him that if France chose to use their superior power, Hitler was toast.
But like France back in 1936, the Europeans choose to wait until the adversary is too big for them to defeat. Stupidly they want us to wait until our adversaries are too big for us to defeat.
The left and the media in the USA do not believe that Hitlers actually exist today. They think the worst people in the world are what they would refer to as Uncle Joe Stalins. That is what President Roosevelt Called Stalin.. Uncle Joe.
The media and Democrats felt that Uncle Saddam would not go for world domination.. even if he had the forces to try. I guess that's why Saddam's hero was Uncle Adolf Hitler.
I'm flipping back and forth between the Fourth of July celebrations to National Geographic -- they've got a program on the USS Ronald Reagan on NOW ... awesome!
So adorable ...;)
Cut-up broccoli also works well in place of asparagus. I use thin asparagus for saute's.
Earlier today I was sitting on a ledge leaning against the wrought iron fence around the White House trying to cool off. Suddenly, I noticed a familiar face go strolling by. I yelled, "Harriet!" and the woman turned around. I said, "is it really you?" She smiled very sweetly and nodded her head in the affirmative. I thanked her for all she has had to endure while serving our country and our President. She gave me an "ahhhh" smile and said thank you!
She began to walk away and I yelled, "Tell W we love him!!!" She stopped turned around and with a very determined look and a grin on her face, said "I'll DO IT!"
An hour or so later, I saw Marine One circle to land. I'm sure our President received our message shortly thereafter. ;*)
Snugs, "short-order" is midway between fast food and restaurant cooking. It's usually diner food - eggs, pancakes, hamburgers, sandwiches and the like. It's made to order, but it isn't gourmet food, for sure.
I don't normally eat that way, but it's great when I'm on a long road trip.
Indeed we did discuss that! Currently my husband and I embarrassed our daughter by threatening to 'neck' in the back seat. ;o)
Life...she's a busy one, homemom. Psychogirl is now a senior and a second-year lifeguard/swim instructor. Man does she have a tan! She's taking ballroom dancing with her best friend (male), active in youth bible study at church, and beginning the college search.
I follow along living vicariously through her. Her life is exciting. haha.
Oh...by switching to about 75% organic I've lost 10 pounds in 5 weeks. Cool, huh?
If you're watching 'A Capitol Fourth', those fireworks seemed to be going off perfectly to Stevie Wonder's singing.
The Tiggywinkles are visiting DC for a 2nd time in 2 years. This time we're taking 15 days rather than 9. Love it!!!
I'm watching GWB speaking to Ft.Bragg from earlier today.
***On CSPAN right now***
man, why are you going off on me??? I have MORE than an 'inking' of what any soldier goes through, thank you very much. I had 5 cousins in the vietnam war ALL AT ONCE, I had relatives in the Gulf and some are over there NOW!!! I had all my uncles in WWII and my dad was in Korea...now...maybe you shouldn't assume things when you know nothing! And yes I've been in Georgia in July...now, I hope not to converse with you again.
Just wondering....did you go off on all the others that agreed with me???
