True patriotism
By CHIP MINEMYER
It feels right that as Independence Day approaches, The Tribune-Democrat is shining the spotlight on the local soldiers just back from Iraq.
The political debate over the military effort in Iraq has divided our nation. Johnstown Congressman John Murtha has led a Democratic Party assault on President Bush and his administration.

But for the young people serving in Iraq, this is not about politics. This is about doing a job, helping people who have been oppressed find a new identity and in the end carve out their own form of independence.
This is about serving your country and risking your life in the name of duty.
Today, The Tribune-Democrat begins a three-day series on the experiences of local soldiers just back from Iraq.
We sat down in our office with three National Guardsmen, all of whom had better places to be reunions with wives, children, parents or friends. But they wanted to meet with us and tell their stories.
We interviewed other soldiers as well.
What we hope we're giving you over the next three days culminating appropriately on July 4 is an informative report on what is happening in Iraq, including the many successes, and look inside the lives of those who have been called to serve.
We expect you'll come away from this series moved by the passion and commitment of these soldiers, by their courage, intellect and patriotism.
We were.
The series focuses on local members of two military groups: Company C, 1st Battalion, 103rd Armor, National Guard armory based in Friedens; and the 876th Engineering Battalion Headquarters Company based in Richland Township
What they are doing is reminding all of us what patriotism really means...

Word in these parts lately is the paper is considering dropping Democrat and just being the Johnstown Tribune. Gee, whoulda thunk it.
FYI
Sounds like it could be great news. I just hope they interview 3 Guardsmen that will lower the boom on him like most vets do. Either way it'll be great to hear of their service.
Will save and comment later.
Murtha's Pink Slip will be issued in November.
"Hey Jack - YOU"RE FIRED!!!"
Jack Murtha is a Democrat traitor and is guilty of treason against the USA!!! Murtha and the entire Democrat Party should be destroyed at the polls this November. They are guilty of aiding and abetting the enemy, along with the NY Times and the majority of the mainstream media. They are guilty of getting our soldiers killed/wounded and prolonging the fight against terrorism. If I had the almighty power to bring one of our killed military folks back to life to rejoin their families and loved ones, and trade John Murtha or the entire Democrat "traitor/treason" Party for him or her, I would do it in a New York minute!!!
Very nice. Thanks...
Excellent!
I'm all ears!
Someone once said "War changes everything." The problem is seenmost clearly in Murtha. He was trained a Marine.and from most reports a good one -but there seems evidence
suggesting War changed him so that he has rebelled against
every purpose and in effect just like Quick John Kerry
is so opposed to combat he would sleep with the enemy.
Vote him out of office, Johnstown!
There are plenty of Vietnam-era liberals who never went to war yet feel the same way as Murtha. And plenty of Vietnam Vets remain die-hard patriotic Americans. Likewise, many old-school pro-national-security Democrats served in WWII and retained their commitment to defending this country (such as JFK).
So IMO war did not change Murtha. The pathological variant of modern liberalism that emerged during the 1960s and that the left has embraced did.

Thanks for the link--will enjoy seeing what the soldiers have to say and reading the series on what their perspective is of what is being accomplished in Iraq. I have a feeling it will be different from the NYT, WP and LAT!
Enraptured by the cameras, recorders and scribes noting your every word reinforced by seeing and hearing yourself everywhere is addictive.
Murtha needs another fix.
Setup a "news crew" on any street corner and see what you catch. More effective and a better yield then dragging a twenty through a trailer park.
