An Air Force installation in Colorado Springs and one near Denver are operating with heightened security.
The Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, which houses NORAD, is now at "Bravo-Plus".
There are five levels of alert: normal, Alpha (low), Bravo (medium), Charlie (high) and Delta (critical). Bravo-Plus is slightly higher than a medium threat level.
Space Command would not comment on the reason for the security increase.
The order also affects Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and Patrick air force base in Florida.
I put in "Space command colorado springs" into Google News search -- I got the article posted, AND:
Delta 4 rockets Air Force Space Command to new heights
http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=20209
Space Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Elliot G. Pulham made the following statement in response to last evening's successful Delta 4 launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif:
"Air Force Space Command has delivered again - an historic 45 consecutive successful launches. The Space Foundation congratulates the men and women of Air Force Space Command on their record-breaking work. Not only have the past 45 launches in a row all been successful, but 100 percent of the previous payloads delivered in this success streak are functioning at, or above, design specifications. Tonight's Delta 4 launch - a combined effort of the Air Force, The Boeing Company, the Aerospace Corporation and many, many others - continues a tradition of leadership in space unrivaled by any other space organization in the world."
The launch at 8:33 p.m. PDT June 27 from Space Launch Complex-6 at Vandenberg Air Force Base was the first Delta 4 to launch from the West Coast.

It may have been this -- the article also mentioned Vandenberg on alert and they launched the rocket from there.
In which case, it was just a precaution and all is well.
:-)We'll all meet over at his house and kick his butt thirty minutes before the meteor hits. Washing his truck, he should have known better.
I'm unconvinced that the security alert is due to the Shuttle, merely pointing out a possibility.
For instance, the backup plan for the Shuttle (if damaged during launch, say by falling insulation) is to dock at the ISS, leave the crew there, and bring the Space Shuttle down by remote control, unmanned, via one or more of our Space Command sites.
Those Space Command sites are on heightened alert 12 hours before the Shuttle Launch...thus, a possibility (i.e. don't want some sort of bad-guy controlling where the Shuttle lands under remote-control).
"If it's the meteor, should I drink my beers now, ya think? :-)"
"It'd probably be a good idea if you don't want them to go to waist. :-)"
I hate to tell you two this, but they
will go to your "waist" anyway. ;o)
I've been wondering that myself. I haven't heard a thing for days on that one, it just seems to have dropped off everyone's radar (well, not everyone, I'm sure!).
If we all start drinking our beer now, we won't be able to kick anybody's butt 30 minutes before it hits. :-)
LOL...I noticed that but was too lazy to correct it.
Great that you did not vacuum. Now we will get a glancing blow from the meteor, and suffer for 15 years with no ability to grow the crops necessary for beer production. Happy now? ;)
What waist? The one I used to have? Lololol
Yep, I went and looked at a Chinese news article (in English) and it basically just said that little Kim was still not happy with US and all the usual propaganda that goes with him and his "news."
Well I was counting on you to swing by and pick me up. Maybe we should consider getting a designated driver....
Oh, that's okay.
It was the perfect setup.
I'm not known as anything other than the straight man.
It's nice on the "other" side. ;o)
Thank you.
Hahahahahahahahahaha
LOL!
I'm not gonna say that I know what yer talkin' 'bout.
Nope...no sirreee...
;o)
Er, why them? They're half a world away and love fighting pretty much *anyone* in that region of the world. Violence to them (any group) is akin to us eating breakfast in the morning or drinking coffee. They can't live without it. Friction of some sort or another at any rate.
Another interesting article I came across while searching -- in the Gazetter of Colorado Springs:
Space Command allies with spy agency to quell threats in orbit

Geeze, when you do something, you do it all the way, don't you?
