Colorado Springs Air Force Installation on Heightened Alert (Space Command)
KRDO-TV13 ^ | 6/29/2006 | Baaron Pittenger

Posted on 07/01/2006 11:02:34 PM PDT by tlb

An Air Force installation in Colorado Springs and one near Denver are operating with heightened security.

The Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, which houses NORAD, is now at "Bravo-Plus".

There are five levels of alert: normal, Alpha (low), Bravo (medium), Charlie (high) and Delta (critical). “Bravo-Plus” is slightly higher than a medium threat level.

Space Command would not comment on the reason for the security increase.

The order also affects Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and Patrick air force base in Florida.

I'd have said this is about the Korean missile but the Alaska ABM base isn't on the list.

For what reason would you hazard a guess about why it went up a notch? NK? The ME?

You think maybe the Alaskan base might have already been at this alert status because of Korea?

I think it could still be about the Korean missile launch.

"Huge Asteroid to Fly Past Earth July 3"
By Joe Rao

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An asteroid possibly as large as a half-mile or more in diameter is rapidly approaching the Earth. There is no need for concern, for no collision is in the offing, but the space rock will make an exceptionally close approach to our planet early on Monday, July 3, passing just beyond the Moon’s average distance from Earth.

Astronomers will attempt to get a more accurate assessment of the asteroid’s size by “pinging” it with radar.

And skywatchers with good telescopes and some experience just might be able to get a glimpse of this cosmic rock as it streaks rapidly past our planet in the wee hours Monday. The closest approach occurs late Sunday for U.S. West Coast skywatchers.

The asteroid, designated 2004 XP14, was discovered on Dec. 10, 2004 by the Lincoln Laboratory Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR), a continuing camera survey to keep watch for asteroids that may pass uncomfortably close to Earth.

Although initially there were concerns that this asteroid might possibly impact Earth later this century and thus merit special monitoring, further analysis of its orbit has since ruled out any such collision, at least in the foreseeable future. "

Dangit. If the meteor hits it is all YOUR fault. Nice going slick. All we wanted was rain.

It's probably just moonbats circling. They tend to get agitated when they encounter any military locations.

Good point. But this is space command, not one of the regional commands.

Maybe they are seeing increased activity in N. Korea?

Or it could be something completely different, of course.
