Khamenei: Israel a "tumor," Hezbollah will never disarm
From Iran Focus:
Tehran, Iran, Jul. 16 -- Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei described Israel on Sunday as "satanic and cancerous" and praised the Lebanese group Hezbollah for its "jihad" against the Jewish state.
"This regime is an infectious tumour for the entire Islamic world", Khamenei said in a speech that was aired on state television.
He rejected the demand by U.S. President George W. Bush that Hezbollah disarm, vowing, "This will never happen".
He also described the Bush administration as the "most hideous" U.S. government in recent years.
Waxing nostalgic for the Carter administration?
Meanwhile, prominent Lebanese politician Walid Jumblat said on Sunday that Lebanon had become a battleground for Tehran's war with Tel Aviv.
"The war is no longer that of Lebanon. It is an Iranian war", Jumblat told the Arabic satellite station al-Arabiya as Israeli armed forces continued to attack targets in southern Lebanon.

40 killed in Iraq market massacre
AP ^ | July 17 2006
Posted on 07/17/2006 4:49:04 AM PDT by jmc1969
At least 40 people, including women and children, were massacred Monday in a car bomb blast and a rampage by gunmen in a market in the town of Mahmudiyah, south of the Iraqi capital.
The latest assault came a day after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a coffeeshop in the northern town of Tuz Khurmatu that killed at least 28 people.
Armed men in several cars sprayed bullets at civilians and shops as they drove through the main market street of Mahmudiyah, security sources said, giving a casualty toll of at least 40 dead and 30 wounded.
There was first a car bomb explosion in the market which was followed by armed men shooting randomly on civilians and on shops, an interior ministry source told AFP.
Medics at Baghdads Yarmuk hospital said they had received some of the dead and wounded from the attack in the town located 30 kilometres (20 miles) from Baghdad.
An AFP photographer at the hospital reported that many of the dead and wounded were women, children and vegetable vendors from the market.
An Iraqi army officer said the security forces had cordoned off the area and arrested two of the gunmen.

Casualties reported as rocket hits Haifa apartment
By YAAKOV KATZ
Casualties were reported on Monday afternoon after a rocket hit an apartment building in Haifa.
Bump thanks for the ping.
Overnight Action
Attacks and counter attacks continue at the tempo of the past couple of days. Haifa continues to remain in Hezbollahs sights while shorter range rocket attacks expand into the southern Golan Heights area.
Increased diplomatic actions are ongoing for some kind of peace keeping force in S. Lebanon, but currently even France is defending Israels right to protect itself. Hezbollah, Syria and Iran find themselves without support globally as well as from the arab world in general.
Foreign evacuations are currently underway as lift assets arrive. However, this is a huge task with 25,000 Americans ALONE to be taken out if necessary. So far Israel hasnt stopped the effort and Hezbollah has kept their hands off foreigners.
Ground Assault Preparations
There have been some probing attacks by Israel into Lebanon. The limited extent of the actions indicates that Israel is a little cautious at what Hezbollah might have up its sleeve in the way of surprises. I expect more of these probing attacks / recons in force for at least the next day or so. In addition to Israel using them to judge Hezbollahs reactions, they will be useful in developing some tactical surprise when the real attack begins.
Gaza
Actions still going on there. Palestinians continue to shoot their Quassam rockets into fields. IDF moving in and out of Gaza, destroying pockets of terrorists.
Heightened Terror Threat for Israel
Internal security has been heightened after an attempt by a suicide bomber to strike a busy Israeli market. These terrorists appear to be trying to cause Israel to respond to a third front, diluting their forces to the north and south.
Awaiting the other shoe to drop
Anticipation over what is coming up next continues to wind up. Here are things to continue to watch for:
1. The Israeli Ground Assault - Major concerns here are use of chemical weapons on a tactical level as well as on a more strategic level by Hezbollah.
2. Hezbollah using their long range rockets to attack Tel Aviv. So far theyve limited themselves to their intermediate and short range assets. That is because they are small, and portable - easier to hide from Israeli assets and airforce.
Use of these rockets will cause Israel to quickly ratchet up the intensity of their attacks.
Another concern is Hezbollahs threats to strike the petrochemical facilities at Haifa. This would be an indirect chemical attack in that toxic gases and fumes would potentially be released that could kill and injure a substantial number of civilians.
When Israel does kick off their ground assault, I expect the long range rockets to be used. Chemical and petrochemical attacks are a serious worry.
An Israeli airstrike in Lebanon on Monday destroyed at least one long- range Iranian missile capable of hitting Tel Aviv, military officials said.
Israeli aircraft targeted a truck carrying the weapons before they could be launched, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of military regulations. The force of the blast sent at least one missile flying into the air, but it fell nearby...

Relative of terrorist Basayev apprehended in south Russia
GROZNY, July 17 (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcers have detained a relative of Shamil Basayev, Russia's most wanted man until he was killed last week in a special operation, in the southern republic of Daghestan, a spokesman said Monday.
Nikolai Varavin said that Ibragim, 24, the husband of Basayev's sister, was the head of a militant group that had been active in the Kurchaloi, Nozhai-Yurt districts in the east of Chechnya and the central region of Urus-Martan.
He added that, according to law enforcement agencies' information, Ibragim was also traveling to the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, where he handled financing for militant groups in Chechnya and the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia.

Sofia's central Mosque will measure the sound of its loudspeakers only if the same is done with church bells in the area, high-ranking Muslims have said Monday.
Meeting mayor Boyko Borissov, the chief secretary of Sofia's Mufti Office Hussein Hafazov has said he doubted complaints against the loudspeakers were unbiased.
Earlier on Monday, the Ataka nationalistic party demanded for Sofia's authorities to shut down the speakers by the end of July.
The party had been collecting signatures in support of their campaign, and announced that 35 000 had signed up. Ataka explained that they had nothing against Islam, but the sound of the ezan - an invitation to prayer extended through loudspeakers - was too intrusive.

Muslims Should Back Palestinians, Lebanese
TEHRAN, July 17--Commander of the Islamic Revolution's Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi on Sunday called for reinforcement of solidarity among Islamic states in the face of the escalating crimes of the Zionist regime and its allies.
"The fate of the Middle East--Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran in particular--is a complex whole in political, security and economic terms," Rahim-Safavi said at a ceremony held on the occasion of Women's Day on Sunday, IRNA reported.
The IRGC chief stressed that Islamic states and members of the Organization of Islamic Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement should back the oppressed Palestinian and Lebanese peoples under the current sensitive circumstances through their financial and spiritual support and decisive stance.

Muslim Group Wants Christian Leader Barred from Canada
(CNSNews.com) - An Islamic advocacy group wants Rev. Franklin Graham barred from entering Canada because of allegedly hateful statements made towards Islam. Graham's spokesman says the Evangelical minister's comments have been "misconstrued" by some Muslims.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations of Canada (CAIR-CAN) claims allowing Graham into Canada would be evidence of a "double standard." British Muslim Riyad ul-Haq was denied entry into Canada in June after being accused of inciting hatred towards Jews, Christians, and other non-Muslims - a violation of Canada's so-called "hate propaganda laws.

Two Radical British-Based Islamic Groups Banned in U.K.
Two radical Islamic groups have been banned in the United Kingdom.
British Home secretary John Reid said he was taking action against Al-Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect. Under a British Parliamentary order, it will be illegal to belong to the groups, encourage support for them or wear clothes suggesting support. Reid said the move sends a signal that the UK would not tolerate people who supported terrorism (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5188136.stm )
The move comes just one week after British-based anti-terror group Vigils exposure of radical Islamic cleric Omar Bakri Mohammeds ongoing cyber preaching from Beirut to members and sympathizers of the now banned groups. Bakri makes regular use of a chat room located on the U.S. based www.paltalk.com to communicate with his followers.
Two UK-based Islamist groups are to become the first to be banned under laws outlawing the glorification of terrorism, Reid said today.
Vigils sting revealed hours of recorded conversations and lectures some from Bakri and others from London-based Abu Izzadeen (formerly known as Trevor Brooks).
These recordings and some private exchanges between Vigil infiltrators and members of Al Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect including exchanges related to raising funds for terror and recruiting jihadist fighters from Britain- were delivered to the British authorities last week.
Currently the British Crown Prosecution Service is deliberating over whether to prosecute Brooks, who has regularly glorified terrorism, contrary to British laws, and called for the destruction of all Jews.
Vigil is pleased with the British governments decision to ban the two groups.
Dominic Whiteman, Vigil spokesperson, said today in an e-mail interview, John Reid today did a good thing, which all Britons should personally thank him for. Both Al Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect are fetid groups full of the worst Islamic extremists we have in the UK. These men and women are worse than the Nazis were in the 1940s they espouse insane totalitarian goals and short-sighted life-hating ideologies which deserve an even more crushing defeat than the Nazis got. We look with interest to see whether the ban will be followed by arrests of the groups leaders and followers.
Whiteman added, We are sure that the UK government - with the help of the excellent British police and security services will not just ban but silence Al-Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect forever more. Vigils infiltrators have sat through hours of these groups lectures and I assure you their vile content, intellectual shortcomings and abuse of good, peace-loving Muslims worldwide will best echo off the inside walls of a prison cell, where they will be able to rant as much as they like away from the sane and life-lovers.
Asked whether the groups will just take up new names and continue to promote terror from other locations (Bakri is in Beirut and outside of British jurisdiction), Whiteman answered, If they do, then groups like Vigil will find them, infiltrate them and have them banned too. There are many new laws we would like to see introduced in the UK and elsewhere, which would help put an end to these nuisance preachers and easily-led followers.
Whiteman said Vigil is here to stay and make life increasingly difficult for terrorists.
He commented, We will continue to lobby for greater access to Internet Service Providers by law enforcement, make it easier for private groups to invoke terror laws in legal actions, and seek compensation for those injured or killed in terrorist atrocities from the terror-supporters. We also want extremists taken off unemployment and disability benefits they purposefully use to suck dry the state and push resolution after resolution until these extremists realize they are devil-worshippers, not Muslims, and either take up useful lives or surrender themselves as beyond help.
"Chemical and petrochemical attacks are a serious worry."
THANK YOU for that summary Godzilla.

ICE apprehends 127 criminal aliens, fugitives and other immigration violators in Oklahoma interior enforcement operation
Arrests result from 4-day initiative called "Operation Return to Sender"
OKLAHOMA CITY -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced today that ICE agents and officers apprehended 127 criminal aliens, fugitive aliens, and other immigration status violators as part of a four-day state-wide interior immigration enforcement operation that began July 12.
Dubbed "Operation Return to Sender," the initiative concluded Saturday and is a continuation of the nationwide operation that was executed last month during which 2,179 aliens were arrested. ICE officers and agents based in ICE's Detention and Removal Operations offices in Oklahoma City and Dallas carried out the enforcement operation in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies. The following agencies provided substantial assistance in this operation: Oklahoma City Police Department; Tulsa County Sheriff's Office; Oklahoma Department of Correction, Parole and Probation; U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force; and Muskogee Police Department.
ICE began the operation in Tulsa on Wednesday and made 46 arrests that day. All were illegal aliens from Mexico who were deported the same day. ICE officers continued the operation in Oklahoma City Thursday through Saturday, and made 81 additional arrests.
Congressmen John Sullivan, who represents Oklahomas first congressional district, said: "Since elected to Congress in 2002, I have worked tirelessly to draw attention to the immigration crisis occurring in Tulsa and throughout our entire nation. The 46 arrests made in Tulsa are an important step forward in dealing with the criminal illegal alien population in Northeastern Oklahoma. I would like to thank the hardworking men and women from the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Muskogee Police Department who assisted the officers and agents from ICE's Office in Oklahoma City and Dallas to successfully carry out this important national security mission. Enforcement of our interior immigration laws is a critical step toward getting a handle on the illegal immigration crisis facing the U.S."
"In April we announced our interior enforcement strategy. And this operation is more evidence that we're matching our words with actions," said Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Julie Myers. "Operation Return to Sender is improving community safety across the country, and Oklahoma is no exception. Illegal immigrants who evade our laws will be identified, arrested and quickly removed."
"Taking fugitive aliens off of our streets is a top ICE priority," said Nuria Prendes, who heads ICE's Office of Detention and Removal Operations in Dallas. "The people targeted in this operation had 'their day in court,' and were ordered deported by an immigration judge. Those who remain at large are on notice: the days when you could ignore an immigration judge's order are over. We are going to find you and send you home." Prendes' area of responsibility includes 129 counties in north Texas and the State of Oklahoma.
Among the 127 individuals arrested in the Oklahoma operation, so far 100 have already been returned to Mexico. Re-entering the United States after having been deported is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. ICE works closely with the U.S. Attorneys' Offices in the Northern and Western Districts of Oklahoma to present for prosecution those aliens who violate U.S. immigration laws.
Those arrested in this Oklahoma interior immigration enforcement operation came from the following nations: Mexico, Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Egypt, Guatemala, Honduras, Iran, Pakistan, Peru and Zimbabwe.
Following are some of the criminal aliens who were arrested in last weeks Oklahoma immigration enforcement operation:
Manuel Trujillo-Terrazas was arrested on Friday by officers from: ICE; U.S. Marshal Service; Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Oklahoma City Police Department. He was convicted in 2000 for possessing and selling heroine near a city park. He was deported as an aggravated felon in 2003. The U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Oklahoma, has accepted this case for prosecution for illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported, which is a felony.
ICE officers on Wednesday -- accompanied by officers from Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Parole and Probation, and Tulsa County Sheriff's Office -- arrested a Honduran national wanted for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The man presented a permanent resident card as identification, which was discovered to be fraudulent. Since, the young victim could not positively identify the man as her attacker, he was turned over to ICE custody and placed into deportation proceedings.
A fugitive Mexican national was arrested on Thursday by ICE and Oklahoma PD officers. During the arrest, officers noticed many signs of possible narcotics trafficking, such as a large amount of small bills alongside small plastic bags. An Oklahoma PD K-9 was alerted to drugs that may have been in the room earlier. The fugitive also possessed a "Peace Officer" badge, pepper spray, and a collapsible steel baton. Throughout his house he also had a large amount of new property still in their boxes. This information was turned over to Oklahoma PD for further investigation.
These arrests are the latest enforcement actions under the interior immigration enforcement strategy that was announced April 20 by Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff and Assistant Secretary Myers. A critical element of this interior enforcement strategy is to identify and remove criminal aliens, fugitives, and other immigration violators from the United States.
The interior enforcement strategy is part of the Secure Border Initiative (SBI), which is the Department of Homeland Security's comprehensive, multi-year plan to secure America's borders and reduce illegal migration. SBI's border security efforts are focused on gaining operational control of the nation's borders through additional personnel and technology, while re-engineering the detention and removal system to ensure that illegal aliens are removed from the country quickly.
The interior enforcement strategy complements the Department's border security efforts by expanding existing efforts to target immigration violators inside this country, employers of illegal aliens, as well as the many criminal networks that support these activities. The primary objectives are to reverse the tolerance of illegal employment and illegal immigration in the United States.
