:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Bin Laden Says Will Take Fight to America
(Full Story)

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden said his group reserved the right to fight the United States on its land and warned Washington and the world community against sending forces to Somalia, according to an Internet audio tape.

"We will fight its (U.S.) soldiers on the land of Somalia ... and we reserve the right to punish it on its land and anywhere possible," said the speaker, who sounded like the Saudi-born militant.

"We warn all of the countries in the world not to respond to America by sending international troops to Somalia," he said of the African nation where Islamists' power is rising.

"Hezbollah Terrorist Sleeper Cell Suspected in New York City"
By Jim Kouri, 7/16/2006 11:02:08 AM

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While many U.S. government officials are deeply concerned over Iran’s nuclear program, according to recent reports, investigations by Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department revealed last May that the Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah may be plotting attacks. These attacks may be launched by their sleeper cells in New York and several other U.S. cities.

According to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the Jewish organization B'nai B'rith, Hezbollah's largest headquarters outside of the Middle East is located in Toronto."

Men fined for illegally handling medical waste

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Two men have been ordered to pay $20,000 in fines for storing infectious medical waste in a Columbia home.

During a hearing Friday in Boone County Circuit Court, Majed El-Dweik, 40, of Columbia, was ordered to pay $5,000 to the state, while Moumen Kuziez, of Baldwin, was fined $15,000.

Investigators with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources say the men were trying to develop a waste-hauling business and found it was cheaper to break the rules.

“This was an example of careless handling, storage and transportation of infectious hazardous wastes,” said Scott Holste, a spokesman for Attorney General Jay Nixon. “Those who disregard the law need to pay a price for that.”

Authorities began investigating in October 2002 after contractors saw containers marked as biohazards inside a home El-Dweik owned.

Authorities ordered licensed handlers to haul away the waste. Instead, unlicensed handlers from Kuziez's M.W.A. Enterprises and another company illegally hauled the waste away and destroyed it in Arkansas.

El-Dweik pleaded guilty in April 2003 to two misdemeanor charges of illegal disposition and management of hazardous waste. He received a suspended sentence and two years' probation.

Tom Mingus, El-Dweik's attorney, described the civil judgment as satisfactory for his client's role. “My client's not involved with the business,” Mingus said. “He is just an employee of the company.”

Assistance from Hezbollah and Iran to al Qaeda

As we mentioned in chapter 2, while in Sudan, senior managers in al Qaeda maintained contacts with Iran and the Iranian-supported worldwide terrorist organization Hezbollah, which is based mainly in southern Lebanon and Beirut. Al Qaeda members received advice and training from Hezbollah.

Intelligence indicates the persistence of contacts between Iranian security officials and senior al Qaeda figures after Bin Ladin's return to Afghanistan. Khallad has said that Iran made a concerted effort to strengthen relations with al Qaeda after the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole, but was rebuffed because Bin Ladin did not want to alienate his supporters in Saudi Arabia. Khallad and other detainees have described the willingness of Iranian officials to facilitate the travel of al Qaeda members through Iran, on their way to and from Afghanistan. For example, Iranian border inspectors would be told not to place telltale stamps in the passports of these travelers. Such arrangements were particularly beneficial to Saudi members of al Qaeda.120

Our knowledge of the international travels of the al Qaeda operatives selected for the 9/11 operation remains fragmentary. But we now have evidence suggesting that 8 to 10 of the 14 Saudi "muscle" operatives traveled into or out of Iran between October 2000 and February 2001.121

In October 2000, a senior operative of Hezbollah visited Saudi Arabia to coordinate activities there. He also planned to assist individuals in Saudi Arabia in traveling to Iran during November. A top Hezbollah commander and Saudi Hezbollah contacts were involved.122

Also in October 2000, two future muscle hijackers, Mohand al Shehri and Hamza al Ghamdi, flew from Iran to Kuwait. In November, Ahmed al Ghamdi apparently flew to Beirut, traveling-perhaps by coincidence-on the same flight as a senior Hezbollah operative. Also in November, Salem al Hazmi apparently flew from Saudi Arabia to Beirut.123

In mid-November, we believe, three of the future muscle hijackers, Wail al Shehri, Waleed al Shehri, and Ahmed al Nami, all of whom had obtained their U.S. visas in late October, traveled in a group from Saudi Arabia to Beirut and then onward to Iran. An associate of a senior Hezbollah operative was on the same flight that took the future hijackers to Iran. Hezbollah officials in Beirut and Iran were expecting the arrival of a group during the same time period. The travel of this group was important enough to merit the attention of senior figures in Hezbollah.124

Later in November, two future muscle hijackers, Satam al Suqami and Majed Moqed, flew into Iran from Bahrain. In February 2001, Khalid al Mihdhar may have taken a flight from Syria to Iran, and then traveled further within Iran to a point near the Afghan border.125

KSM and Binalshibh have confirmed that several of the 9/11 hijackers (at least eight, according to Binalshibh) transited Iran on their way to or from Afghanistan, taking advantage of the Iranian practice of not stamping Saudi passports. They deny any other reason for the hijackers' travel to Iran. They also deny any relationship between the hijackers and Hezbollah.126

In sum, there is strong evidence that Iran facilitated the transit of al Qaeda members into and out of Afghanistan before 9/11, and that some of these were future 9/11 hijackers. There also is circumstantial evidence that senior Hezbollah operatives were closely tracking the travel of some of these future muscle hijackers into Iran in November 2000. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of a remarkable coincidence-that is, that Hezbollah was actually focusing on some other group of individuals traveling from Saudi Arabia during this same time frame, rather than the future hijackers.127

We have found no evidence that Iran or Hezbollah was aware of the planning for what later became the 9/11 attack. At the time of their travel through Iran, the al Qaeda operatives themselves were probably not aware of the specific details of their future operation.

After 9/11, Iran and Hezbollah wished to conceal any past evidence of cooperation with Sunni terrorists associated with al Qaeda. A senior Hezbollah official disclaimed any Hezbollah involvement in 9/11.128

We believe this topic requires further investigation by the U.S. government.

Outcry as border guards seize British 'dirty bomb' lorry heading for Iran
Daily Mail ^ | July 22, 2006 | Jason Lewis

Posted on 07/24/2006 8:47:37 PM PDT by Bald Eagle777

Border guards seized a British lorry on its way to make a delivery to the Iranian military - after discovering it was packed with radioactive material that could be used to build a dirty bomb.

The lorry set off from Kent on its way to Tehran but was stopped by officials at a checkpoint on Bulgaria's northernborder with Romania after a scanner indicated radiation levels 200 times above normal.

The lorry was impounded and the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NPA) was called out.

On board they found ten lead-lined boxes addressed to the Iranian Ministry of Defence. Inside each box was a soil-testing device, containing highly dangerous quantities of radioactive caesium 137 and americium-beryllium.

The soil testers had been sent to Iran by a British firm with the apparent export approval of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Iraqi Intel Memo Describes Osama Connection

Iraqi Intel Memo Describes Osama Connection

FMSO has translated a new set of documents from those captured in the fall of Saddam Hussein, and one of them seems very provocative indeed. A memo from the Afghan section of the Directorate of Counterintelligence (M5) to the head of M5 dated September 15th, 2001 relays information from an Afghani source that Taliban consul discussed the relationship between Osama, Iraq, and the Taliban. Document CMPC-2003-001488 had previously been translated by Iraqi blogger Omar at Iraq the Model for Pajamas Media last March, but now has been translated by the government:

Office of the Presidency Intelligence Service M5/3/9/2

The Honorable Mr. General Director Manager M5 Subject: Information

Our Afghani source numbered 11002 had provided us with the information on the denotation paper number -1- ) The Afghani Consul Ahmad Dahstani (the information on the denotation paper number (2)) had mentioned in front of him with the followings:

1. Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban Group in Afghanistan were in touch with the Iraqis and that group of the Talibans and Osama Bin Laden had visited Iraq. 2. The United States of America has evidence that the Iraqi government and Osama Bin Laden's group expressed cooperation among themselves in bombing targets in American. 3. In case Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban were proven to have been involved in carrying out these terrorist operations, it could be possible that the United Stated will attack both Iraq and Afghanistan. 4. The Afghani consul heard about the connection between the Iraqis and the Osama Bin Laden group during his stay in Iran. 5. Upon what has been presented we suggest writing to the Intention Committee with the above information.

Please revise…Your recommendation …. With appreciation,

Four days after 9/11, the North Africa and East Asia bureau of the Counterintelligence Directorate appeared very concerned with this information being discussed, so much so that the information went right to the top of the directorate.

Because if you get large numbers here, the Government will listen."

Partially true....if they get large numbers anywhere, the WORLD will listen, and more and more people will think of Muslims as murderers. What a shame there seem to be none of their own who strive to clean out the fanatics among them. Yep, the world is "listening" and "watching carefully." Litigation by CAIR and the ACLU serve to reinforce negative stereotypes rather than any understandng that could be gleaned by people concerned about their image and actively renouncing and removing the troublemakers among themselves (law enforcement would undoubtedly be ready, willing and able to assist should they be concerned for their own personal safety).

A few more details...

"Albania Freezes Bank Account Of Bin Laden Associate"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "TIRANA (AP)--The Albanian government has frozen another bank account belonging to a businessman accused by U.S. authorities of receiving money from Osama bin Laden to set up a radical Islamic terrorist network in Albania.
The finance ministry said Sunday that it has also frozen bank accounts and seized property belonging to five Islamic charities operating in the country.

Finance Minister Ridvan Bode ordered the action July 5. Six bank accounts were frozen and property was seized in the capital, Tirana, and in the small northern towns of Kukes and Bulqiza.

The ministry didn't say how much money was held in the accounts.

The charities targeted were the Al Haramain Foundation, MediCare, Karavan, Foundation of Life and Science, and Taibah International. A ministry spokeswoman wasn't able to provide any further details.

The businessman, Abdul Latif Saleh, holds Jordanian and Albanian citizenship. He was placed on a United Nations sanctions list that requires all U.N. members to impose a travel ban on him and block his assets.

Saleh left Albania four years ago, Albanian prosecutors say. American authorities said his last known residence was in the United Arab Emirates.

The U.S. Treasury Department last September ordered American banks to freeze any accounts or other financial assets held by Saleh.

The department alleged that bin Laden provided Saleh with $600,000 to encourage the creation of "extremist groups" in Albania. "

Enemy Extremists Continue Destructive Behavior in Afghanistan

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, July 24, 2006 – Enemy fighters in Afghanistan continue to use homemade bombs to terrorize the civilian population, a U.S. spokesman there said today.
"Enemy extremists continue their destructive behavior using improvised explosive devices to spread fear and terror among the Afghan people," Army Col. Thomas Collins, a spokesman for Combined Forces Command Afghanistan said in a news briefing.

A suicide car bomb struck a convoy this morning injuring two coalition soldiers. Officials did not release the soldiers' nationality. Also this morning, a suicide motorcycle bomb drew Afghan soldiers and police to an area in Farah province, where they were attacked by Taliban extremists using small arms. One Afghan soldier was wounded.

These attacks came a day after an improvised explosive device wounded two coalition soldiers on a highway in eastern Afghanistan and two days after coalition forces found a weapons cache in a cave complex in Kunar province. Items found in the cave included an assault vest, wires and switches, blasting caps and various documents.

"The last 48 hours have shown once again that the people of Afghanistan are threatened by a ruthless, immoral enemy," Collins said. "This enemy is lying when he says he is fighting a jihad. The truth is that he is only fighting to oppress the Afghan people's rightful desire for progress and peace."

As more and more Afghans report roadside bombs and IED makers, they are providing invaluable assistance in defeating these devices, helping prevent injury and death for their fellow Afghans, he added. "While we face an adaptive and innovative enemy, there is no single solution to defeating these efforts. Afghan and coalition forces must continue their aggressive pursuit to kill or capture the bomb makers and their networks," he said.

Collins said that training and effective technology are critical aspects to meeting this challenge. To that end, a joint information exchange started today in the United States that includes delegates from Pakistan and Afghanistan who are members of their respective Counter IED Tripartite Working Group. Members of the group will observe how the United States trains to counter IEDs. The conference also provides an opportunity for Afghan and Pakistani representatives to share techniques and lessons learned in combating such tactics in their own countries, Collins said.

In other news from Afghanistan, a coalition team came to the aid of an injured Afghan child early today in the Nari district of Kunar province. The 2-year-old boy had fallen from a roof and was suffering from a depressed skull fracture, vomiting and loss of consciousness, U.S. officials said in a statement.

A coalition medical evacuation team transported the child by air to a coalition medical facility for treatment. The young boy is being evaluated, and is currently listed in stable condition, officials said.

"Our prayers go out for a speedy recovery for this young boy," Army Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, a Combined Joint Task Force 76 spokesman, said. "We try our best to aid Afghan civilians in need whenever resources are available."
