It was Israel's greatest moment of triumph and mourning. Innocent lives were saved --- and Israel lost one of its greatest sons. I don't know if Israel can pull this off again but I do know that if Israel hadn't existed, all those hostages would have been dead. A Jewish State was worth all the suffering and the sacrifices that went into its establishment if it could save one Jewish life from those determined to kill Jews. For that reason alone, Entebbe has earned its place in the history books in what one small besieged nation did to confront a crisis and overcome it.

(The Palestinian terrorist regime is the crisis and Israel's fist is the answer.)

Entebbe happened when I was between my junior and senior years of college. I remember when I read about the operation, I cheered myself hoarse! To me and a lot of other people I knew, Israel's operation was like their present to the US to celeberate our bicentennial. Back in 1976 I wished our leaders had the same spine and chutpah to do what Israel did, and I wish that our leaders today had that same spine and chutzpah.
